ok, so i took my engine apart down to the block to replace everything. Still using stock crank and rods. But now that its almost back together i have a few questions.

when i reinstalled the crank i didnt put it in as it came out, meaning its in a different positon. I installed a GT2 cam as well. Put on a new timing chain with new sprockets and i did the timing as it says in my manual, so my cam should be straight up correct?.. but my question is, will my timing be all f'ed up because the cam and crank were installed in different positions? sorry if this is a dumb question but im having a little brain fart lol.. im planning on ordering the comp cams degreeing kit, but is it really as complicated as it looks?

Timing should be only affected by the new grind of the cam. There are key ways on the sprockets for the cam & crank so its hard to go wrong there. When you get done you will need to do a CASE relearn to sync up the computer with the new crank angle variation. If you want to take on the degreeing process, its not a bad idea. That ensures that your cam is giving you the exact lift and duration that is advertised on the cam spec card.

you arent going to need a degree kit, just install the cam straight up by aligning everything up like your book says. it doesnt matter what way you put the cam/crank in.

i bought a degree kit only because I wanted to see my piston to valve clearance (in a sbc, not v6) and it was a lot easier finding TDC without the heads on than use those tools that bend, not to mention the piston comes out of the block, and balancers arent known for being 100% accurate

ok that made things a whole lot easier. i was under the impression that if i didnt degree the cam it would cause some catastrophic failure lol

nope, not at all. degreeing a cam basically lets you check out the specs of the cam and how they match the cam info. if you are installing it straight up.
