Does anyone have a parts list for the L26 swap? Im in the process of swapping an L26 from an 08 Buick Lucerne into my 98 Firebird. I was wondering what parts from the L26 besides the block and heads would be able to be used?
Here are the parts that look interchangeable to me. Can anyone confirm?
Knock sensors
Water pump
EGR Valve
Coil packs
ICM
I guess what Im looking for is a list of parts i will need to use off of my old engine and the parts i can use from the new.
You need everything off your 98' to make it work, only things you can use is the block and heads.
08' L76 6.0L 4X4 Chevy EXT.Cab LTZ Vortec MAX with Snug top cover, Dynomax exhaust,Hptuners& K&N intake
96' Camaro M5 to A4 conversion, alot of mods . GT35R Turbo full suspension. Built engine
I never messed with 08' coils and ICM, the pinouts need to be the same. You can try it , if its not no biggy.

Yes
Yes
Yes- but you have to change the tubes

Yes
You need LIM/UIM, Oil pan, Coolant bracket thingy, coil pack bracket, fuel rail, exhaust manifolds, power steering pump... I forget if there's anything else. Pretty sure alt bracket too.
different oil filter bracket as well...I believe you need your powersteering pump bolts, as we have the weird 2 size bolts, and fwd cars just have a stud...coolant temp sensor is different and I believe so is the oil pressure sensor.
Map sensors are the same
Thats all I can remember for now that wasnt on the above lists
Thanks guys. I thought I read someone was going to try to use the oil pan. Mine is pretty rusty, Id like to use the one from the L26 if I could. Also I heard something about the oil filter bypass. Something about using the old one is a bad idea that it can get stuck open and let dirty oil mess up your new engine??
Also what about the crank pulley? Can we use the one from the l26?
You can't use the oil pan, gotta reuse the firebird pan. I don't know what the oil filter bypass is, but if you're talking about the filter extension you have to use your old one too. When I did mine I used my old oil pickup too. I heard the one from the l26 was a little shorter. Yes you can use the crank pulley.
1997 Chevrolet Camaro
L26, Pacesetter headers, SLP cai, Centerforce DF clutch, Pro 5.0 shifter, UMI short stick, 1le driveline, J&M 35mm front swaybar, UMI lca's/phb/sfc's, KYB AGX shocks, Hotchkis stb.
my swap was from an 05 lucerne, it's still an L36...fwd pans are different...I tried really hard to keep and use the sexy cast aluminum pan that came with mine...wouldnt fit
anyways, I kept my pickup because the fwd that I had appeared to be slightly shorter I believe, so I didnt want to chance anything.
Crankpulley is fine, make sure you do a case relearn when You get the car running again.
I'm looking into the oil mod as I have time, so I can't give you much advice on that atm
fwiw I'm still using the stock/w.e bypass that came with the car originally. I believe the oiling mods are more of concern for those pushing the limits of their cars and those who want to spin their motors higher than factory redline.
The mod wouldnt hurt if you're stock non-the-less, but I wouldnt be worried about it that much...there are tons of us who got damn near 300k on our motors before they let go with the stock oiling provisions ;)
Yes you can keep the crank pulley/balancer from the L26.
The coils are also the same, I believe the ICM are as well but I'm not positive. An easy way to check is to look one up for your car, then look up the same part from the donor. If its the same part number then it should work.
You can use the FWD EGR valve but it does put the connector a little close to thermostat housing. I've been running the one from my 06 GP donor now for like 10k miles with no issues.
From top to bottom you have to change:
Upper and lower intakes and everything associated with them
Valve covers (or swap sides on the factory L26 ones, if you dont your oil fill will be behind the brake booster)
All front end accessory drive parts
Oil filter adapter
Exhaust manifolds and EGR
Oil pan (I think the pickups are the same)
Engine mounts - the part that bolts to the engine.
Flexplate (flywheel if manual trans)
The crank, cam and knock sensors are all the same. I think most of the sensors in the intake are different due to the completely different design of the FWD manifold.
Good luck, its alot of work...
Edit: I never have had to do a crank relearn with my swap. It started right up and has been running great!
I didn't do a case learn either. I do have a misfire still, but I think that's because I used my coils and icm off the old motor. I still have the new coils and icm, but I don't know how to test to make sure the old ones are defective.

Haven’t done anything on the Camaro, but put LEDs on my truck headlights . And my oil pressure sensor went out on the truck so going to fix that this...
