Re: Help oil pressure issue!
I would still check to see what's up. First check the pressure sensor. Use a mechanical gauge and see if the readings are similar. If they are then you need to investigate further. If the mechanical gauge reads OK then you know it's just the sensor.2002 Silver Firebird A4
T-Tops, Leather, Y87, W68, Chrome Wheels
Bone Stock

Re: Help oil pressure issue!
If the pressure really is high, It's probably the pressure regulator, which I think is part of the oil filter adapter assembly, but others on here would know for sure. If the pressure is at 90 that's not too bad, it will probably not harm anything. I wonder if the oil filter could have something wrong with it. I don't know if the pressure sensor is before or after the filter, but you may want to change it just to see. It's cheap, and it seems odd that right after your oil change you suddenly have high pressure readings.Last edited by Rob Bell; 09-25-2011, 01:11 PM.2002 Silver Firebird A4
T-Tops, Leather, Y87, W68, Chrome Wheels
Bone Stock

Re: Help oil pressure issue!
Are there any other signs of [exceedingly] high oil pressure? Is this the original sending unit or a replacement? If it's original, it could be going bad. If it's a replacement from a parts store, those are known to read a little high.'99 Camaro

Re: Help oil pressure issue!
Most likely it's the oil pressure sensing unit. It's simple to replace, right up front on the block.2002 5-spd NBM Camaro

Re: Help oil pressure issue!
If the engines not knocking and sensor isn't leaking don't worry. Had same problem as you and did sythetic oil changes everytime it started get black now at slightly over 60. Currently running mobile 1 extended performance 15,000mile oil change filter at 5000 because it was getting black then added 1/2qt cleaned right up and still good oil pressure and less oil consumption than when I bought the car.
