rebuild vs low mileage

i would like to know how much it would cost and what parts i would need if i was going to rebuild my engine and if just a low mile engine would be just a good buy

PS-i plan on turbo,250 hp

low mileage motor...rebuild will cost you 1800$...plus you better make damn sure you set all your tolerances spot on or have fun in less than 5k.

I got my low mileage motor for 400$ with 4k on it...3.8s are in sooo many cars its crazy...I got mine from an 2005 buick lucerne. Sold the heads/oil pan/ etc etc etc and made most of all my money back I spent buying the motor.

oddly enough it looks like buick lucerns weren't around until 2006 with L26 motors...guess I got a lacrosse motor? weird...either way I know it was an L36 because it had the plastic intake, and I know it had 4k because of how clean the bloody thing was inside...looked like it literally just came off the assembly line, oil was still fresh to.

how low of a millage should i go so i know it can handle a supercharger

as low as you can go for a good price that you're willing to pay. I see a ton of lucerne motors within 140k of here with 19k or less on them going for 400$ roughly.

if you want boost, research which cars had the L67 and L32 motors and maybe grab those...since those were the motors in the GTP's, bonevilles, etc which all had the m90 superchargers in them

your asking for trouble...simple thing such as not torqueing the Rods to spec will wreak havoc on a motor.

You should really really really know what you're doing when you rebuild a motor. I am by no means an expert, I follow torque specs and such to a "T"...I won't even touch degreeing a cam, which yes, you should do even reinstalling the stock piece. I mean, I got help measuring the clearances on the rod bearing (bearing that goes on the crank? think that's what it's called) when I reassembled my motor the first time...we missed a hairline crack in the valve guide, the valve stuck and cost me a valve and a piston.

the price that you can get a new low mileage motor for, that is only 6 years or less old is so low, there is no point to the headaches (unless you're apply those secrets and adding a few more horses in unconventinal ways ;) )

Intake, heads, accessories, piece that holds the oil filter, oil pan, and I think that's it.

$900??? Dude....$500-$600 max is what I personally think you should be paying....look at buick lucernes, lacrosses, GTP's, Impalas, camaros, firebirds, use the non interchangeable and interchangeable features on the site search...I would not be paying 900$ I'll tell ya that right now, you can do better than that.
