I have milled heads. You won't want to go very far, though. Mine have .02 taken off, which on a 3.4 is like a .5 bump in CR. I used felpro head gaskets and have no issues with pistons hitting plugs or anything. Gains? I have no idea about milled heads alone but I will post my times once I get to the track.

You will get some increase in power with the increased compression. You may need to run higher octane fuel to take advantage of it. With higher compression you will have a greater tendency to get engine knock. Thus by using higher than standard octane you will help prevent knock. That's just my $.02

I had my heads resurfaced (milled) when I had them ported and polished. They took off .005". This is just enough to give it a good, flat mating surface to the block.

According to a shop that I brought specs and a piston/head to:
.022 off the head will raise comp on the L36 by .4

I think a better idea though (or another idea to add to milling the heads) is running a .054 head gasket. It brings the piston closer to the head making the quench area work better and raises comp a little at the same time.
