well, i have browsed through many articles regarding blocking off the egr stuff on the 3.4, but didn't find many answers, just guesses and theories. My question is has anyone actually done it to their 3.4, and if so what did you do to the electronics, did you dyno or find out if more power was produced, and did you throw any codes, or notice any negative effects.
thanks in Advance!
me and my best friend blocked off the egr on his fiero (88 formula) last week, as long as the cpu is still pluged into the egr it wont throw a code
but don't expect much of a gain, the egr isn't open at idle or wot (we only blocked it 'cause the valve to intake tube was broke)

i have mine blocked off sort of, i unplugged the EGR, and left the egr attached to the header (havnt had time to make a set of block off plates), then for the plenum, i took the stock plate off , pulled the tube out, and put a peice of a redbull can between the plate and the manifold so it dosent leak
it throws a code for all three EGR solenoids , but i havnt had a SES light in my dash for over 3 years anyway, so it dosent bother me at all, when i get some time and metal im planning on fabbing up some homemade block off plates, shouldnt be too hard
as for gains, umm, no.. i didnt notice a damn thing, the EGR kicks off at WOT anyway,
the main reason i took mine out is because i would have had to bend the tube from the manifold to the EGR a lot after i installed my headers to make them connect, i just figured it was a good time to get rid of it.
also when i get the block off plates in it will make changing the plugs a peice of cake (as if they werent to begin with )
I used a small piece of sheet steel and a dremel tool to make mine. The gaskets make AWESOME stencils. Trace the with a pencil and then carve away with the dremel. Use gloves so that your hands don't get chopped us if the metal slips.
When it is finished, bolt it between the EGR valve and the tube that goes to the upper intake. That way, if you have emissions tests, they won't be able to know that it's blocked unless they look REAL close. You can also paint it to disguise it a little more.

Can you have the ECM reprogrammed to deal with a deleted EGR setup so no codes/SES light are thrown? Been thinking about getting rid of the EGR when I have my '94 Camaro 3.4L rebuilt with some POWA!
