Damnit, I wish that I had bought a manual, or was patient enough to find one. My poor auto just won't stand for a cam like that...I learned it the hard way a few years ago... Is there any way to not trip an SES light, I have the misfortune to live in a pollution control city and that wouldn't fly very far.

Few tips:
Know the correct torque specs... and use a torque wrench. The intake bolts are very weak and will break if over torqued.
When removing the tensioner bracket from the engine be very careful as there are 2 plastic tubes on the end that are very fragile. I've gone through several of these already.
http://www.dxsoftware.com/magnus/pic...ower_front.jpg
that is one of them.
To remove the valve covers you have to remove the engine hoist brackets. The driver side one is easy, the pass one is not.. it's in the rear and 2 bolts hold it in. They are 13mm. Jack up the car and get the bottom bolt from underneath. Estimated time for this 1 bolt is 1 hour.. honestly.
Also, to help you line up the cam dots, line up the cam gear and balance gear first.. those 2 donts are easy to line up, then put on the cam gear and line up the crank dot with that, THEN put on the chain and slide them on.
It helps if you remove the tensioner too, it's a small bolt very easy to remove, just don't over torque it on re-install.
Then, when you reassemble the front cover, put 2 rocker arms on 1 cylinder on and rotate the engine slowly with the plugs out.. if you feel tension then it oculd be a valve is hitting the piston and the cam is not lined up right.
Also, remove the oil pressure sensor before you start and make it the last thing you put on, it's very fragile and gets in the way a lot.
When you reassemble everything, pull the INJ and IGN fuses and crank the engien for a good 20 seconds before firing it up.Keith - Chicago
HP Tuners - PCM Reprogramming
97 Firebird V6 to LS1 swap
V8 9.967@132.78 1.322 60\' NA Heads/Cam
V8 10.295@128.48 1.363 60\' NA Cam Only
V8 10.987@119.31 1.422 60\' NA Stock Internals
V6 13.674@98.22 NA
V6 12.394@104.91 N20 100HP

Sounds Great! It sounds like a V8 at idle.
Do mind posting a sound clip when you're under hard acceleration. I just want to see if the cam got rid of all of the ricey noise.
How much did the cam cost and where did you get it? How much horsepower did you gain?

i have a manual, manuals get clutches, not torque converters, and i have an aftermarket clutch. im not making fun of you im just informing you.
The cam was like $305 from www.compcams.com and i got an amazing deal on all the gaskets and misc items i needed to perform the install. however at your local gm dealer you will be paying at or above $200 on all the items needed.
the car sound better at every rpm, sounds a lot deeper and throaty. i will try to get a sound clip, however, it really sounds good outside the car, and i cant really strap a laptop behind my car ;) hehe.
Thanks for all the compliments on the cam guys, i really apprecaite it.

Yeah me too Kieth, Im very curious to see what happens with my new cam. Hold off on your next cam purchase untill we find what mine does. I hope to have mine in by the end of the month. I know it sounds long time away but im just way too busy to do it now. I will let you all know how the new cam works out. I will also be getting a before/after dyno to show results.
Zach, mad props on the new cam. Sounds fabulous. I can only hope my car sounds that good.

Sounds freakin' awesome man Now I've got a couple questions that could be addressed quickly and easily by some of you. I have an automatic, and I would love to get a cam for it, and am curious about what kind of problems I would have with a cam. I'm not asking what cam I should get, allthough sugguestions would be fine with me. Anyways, I plan to stay N/A and I'm not planning to change my torque convertor. Anywho, would there be any problems from this? When and if I get a cam, I will not be running the stock springs and etc. I will upgrade, but am curious how an auto treats a cam? Can anybody help me out, or was that just worded waaaay to wrong?

lol, i went on a diet, and keith is gaining weight so he can get more muscle mass, therefore there is no more 40 lb diffrence between us.
as far as an automatic cam, id assume you need a high stall so that the car will stay running at idle. with the stock stiff verter id imagine a cam such as mine would NOT run. However with a looser converter id imagine it would be ok. if you want to stay NA you want a cam where the intake and exahust are the same, such as my 216/216. i see no problem with a 212/212 in a stock automatic however dont hold me to that.
