I just bought a pair of Heads to port and Polish. I want to clean them up first. What is the best way to clean them. One of my friends said i should soak them in gas for like a week and use brake cleaner and a wire brush. Any suggestions?

How clean do you want them? Do not use a wire brush on any gasket surface. You have a good chance of grooving the mating surface and having worse problems down the road. I would just use an engine degreaser and a semi-firm plastic bristled brush. That should be sufficient. Ideally, I would just take it to a garage with a parts washer and see what they would charge to clean them up for you. I't may be worth $20 bucks to not have to deal with it :Dwww.fullthrottlev6.com
www.chitownracing.com

a wire brush wont damage the gasket surfaces, aluminum maybe, but not iron...soaking them then brushing them would work fine....Black 1998 Pontiac Firebird A-4 swap
271.4rwhp/259.4rwtq NA
13.30@102.44
www.freewebs.com/wickedsix98

Use some simple green to get the oil stuff off. Use a flap wheel to remove the carbon. If you are worried about a little carbon, you probably don't need to be porting your own heads. If it free then hey, go for it, if you have to pay someone, don't bother.
I ported mine and had them cleaned up after.
