I just bought a pair of Heads to port and Polish. I want to clean them up first. What is the best way to clean them. One of my friends said i should soak them in gas for like a week and use brake cleaner and a wire brush. Any suggestions?

How clean do you want them? Do not use a wire brush on any gasket surface. You have a good chance of grooving the mating surface and having worse problems down the road. I would just use an engine degreaser and a semi-firm plastic bristled brush. That should be sufficient. Ideally, I would just take it to a garage with a parts washer and see what they would charge to clean them up for you. Hot Tank all the way....
I got mine hot tanked, they did a crappy job, but they still look clean...

If you're doing the p&p, you want all the crap cleaned out of the ports. The best way to do that is by hot-tanking. Find a local machine shop to do it for you - it's worth the price!83 S-10 w/95 3.4 SFI, 4L60EComment

Use some simple green to get the oil stuff off. Use a flap wheel to remove the carbon. If you are worried about a little carbon, you probably don't need to be porting your own heads. If it free then hey, go for it, if you have to pay someone, don't bother.
I ported mine and had them cleaned up after.
