autotap says 40* of advance??

i picked up autotap this weekend finally (yay!) and hooked it up to get some baseline readings...unfortunately i didn't get everything saved just right (strim and ltrim), but i do remember at one point i had as much as 40* of timing advance. is that kind of wild for timing advace, or is that expected?

I do belive it was reading total timing. When we use it, we just watch the graphs, and although it says Advance Timing, it is total in our case.

Was this reading measured at a cruise or WOT? 40 deg of total timing is right on for highway driving. I usually see 39 to 40 on the highway. At WOT you should be seeing anywhere from 25 to 29 deg of timing. If you have 40 deg at WOT around redline I'm sure you would be having some knock issues and be getting knock retard readings.

hmm at idle I'm around 20 degrees...same with 99camaro....black97cam however is at -20 :D :D [img]graemlins/fluffy.gif[/img] he needs to do something....

BTW: this was done with OBD-2 software....havent tested yet at WOT

forget the - sign infront of it.. thats autotap error or something..

you will see 40 in cruise and such..
I see 20 at idle..

Chances are you will see no more than 28 at WOT.

i've never seen more than 24* at WOT. that was at 2.5* of knock. i think it's false knock but i haven't been motivated enought to investigate yet.
