  • Knock Sensor

Well I'm out to desensitize it. Right now, I'm staying away from resistors to desensitize it. My first attempt will include wrapping it with Teflon tape and perhaps a small piece of a old T shirt depending on the exact shape. From what I can tell, I think it's going to be a ring bolted to the block.

Will water start pouring of this hole if I remove the bolt? I've read that on the LT1's it does.

Huh, I posted this in the Intake/Exhaust Forum. I didn't think it was exactly advanced material but guess somebody did.

After looking up a replacement knock sensor from AdvancedAuto, it looks like a bolt with several fat washers on it with a wire coming out the head of the bolt. Looks like I have to use an open head wrench to get this one unless a deep socket will go over that plastic fitting once the wires are pulled out. I can reach this from under the car right and what about the coolant thing?

Im not sure how to desonsotize the knock sensor. But when I do my cam swap I think im gonna have ZZP reprogram my computer, they should be able to desensotize the Knock sensors by the computer. That may be another option for you.

        coolant will leak..

wrapping it wont do anything, i tried it.

I don't think you need to desnesitize. Is your valvetrain even that noisy?

The valve train isn't that noisy but the exhaust sure is. That's probalbly what the sensor is picking up or a pipe hitting the frame.

i run open y-pipe, loud as hell and don't get increased knock.

If a pipe is hitting the frame, make that pipe not hit the frame before you mess with the knock sensors.

Actually, yes you can desensitize them

                http://www.zzperformance.com/zzp/inf...rd/kr_home.htm

                take a look

desensitizing the Knock Sensors are a last resort and are only a resolution to false knock -- so make sure its false before you try it.

edit: this method does require pcm programming
