• Stronger internal advise

I am currently starting my planning on a newer 3.8l Camaro, and I have come to the point where I need to start looking at stronger internals.

I am just trying to get some opinions and suggestions on these proposals and plans that I have, because I can't get anything else out of searching the database.

I am looking to running 100 to 150 shot of nitrous to compliment a 100 hp SC (hopefully). My plans are to get forged pistons by Ross Racing Pistons, and the forged connecting rods that are L67 spec. I want to keep the stock compression ratio, but in need of stronger assemblies. If anyone thinks stock compression won't work, I can use the suggestions on what to use.

Second, I plan on getting the SuperSix Power Pak offered by SuperSix motorsports. I can't tell whether or not these heads are milled down or what, but if they are, I needed to know how much they are milled down, and whether or not a thicker head gasket can make up for the loss, considering I want to keep stock compression if possible. I can see that they also have two cams availiable with this package, a cam with a duration of 214/214 110 separation and a cam with 220/224 duration 114 separation. Which cam would be good with the application that I have above, or if there is another cam I should go with, what is it?

I am also looking for rockers that cam compliment this in any way. I no nothing about rockers besides their basic operation, if anyone can tell me what is a good rocker, please tell me, as I will be searching for those too.

Lastly, does anyone know where to get a hardened crank at or who will do work on a crankshaft?

Any suggestions or recommendations are helpful.

I have SSM heads. Mine are milled .020 and raised compression to about 9.8-9.9. I asked for my heads to be milled. He said most heads he wont mill them at all.

With your setup and wanting such large boost and nitrous you will be better off going with a dishtop piston to reduce compression. L67 rods are a good choice, I havent used ROSS pistons but that sounds like a good plan.

Your cam, I wouldnt suggest getting a regrind which is what SSM sells. Call tom and tell him you want a fresh core from compcams. He can also give you recomendations on specs for your cam. Just tell him what you want and he'll take care of you. I trust tom's word he knows his stuff. But basically for a supercharger/N2o cam you will want a little higher Lobe seperation probly 114 or 115 and maybe slightly favor the exhaust side on the duration.

Rockers, stock rockers should be fine. Aftermarket rockers are hard to find for our cars. I only know of 1 company that makes them. Intense, they are fully alluminum and very nice rockers but are very expensive at $500+ for a set. My suggestion is use stockers.

I dont know of anybody that has harden a crank. Best bet would be to shop around and find a local machine shop. they should be able to do it no sweat. It might be expensive though.

If its of any help at all, the supersix heads flow more than any other current 3.8L modified heads around (and this includes intense and thrasher!). Just thought I'd share

I hear good things about the L67 internals... how easy are they to adapt? Do they just drop in?

hey guys,
im also looking to do almost the same setup, about a 100 shot, but no s/c, im definately going with the supersix package and probably the ross pistons, but where is the best place to get the l67 rods? i know there are a few grand prix sites but can anyone reccoment the cheapest off the top of their head?

Hmm,i thought intense had the best heads around.im going for a similiar setup, but im going top end with mine as its a daily driver now.heres what i was gonna get...

Intense stage 3 heads $1900
Intense stage 3 blower cam $370
Supersixx ported upper and lower intakes $500
Intense oil pressure raise kit $45
Intense double roller timing chain kit $300
Intense lightweight pushrods $100
Comp cams oer hydro lifters $156
Walbro 255pump/lucas 42.5 lb injectors from intense $389
ATI PROCHARGER d1sc w/twinflow intercooler lt1 kit @8 psi $2200
NOS 3.8 dry 150 shot kit $500

as you can see it all adds up,ya the supersixx kit is cheaper and you get more, but that doesnt mean their necessarily better. Are they though?is intense better or not?Id guess from what ive heard their both good, kinda like comparing ati to vortech.Any word?
Intense told me that 500 hp (flywheel) would be attainable with the above mentioned parts, just calculate the drivetrain loss.but ill be limited to raising the psi due to stock pistons.

Actually that 220/224 114 would be a sweet cam for nitrous/blower use.
Definately get a fresh core from comp.

Maybe want to try a Nitrous HP cam from comp? With 200-250 HP of FI power, it might be beneficial.

A 220/224 would probably be borderline streetable (depending on your definition.)
Not enough people are doing big enough cams, so I say do it. I have the 216/216 and I would go bigger if I had to do it again, and had ported heads.

I agree on the stock rockers. Crank should be able to handle the power. I would replace the bearings though. Pistons, rods would be good. Get some better pushrods and lifters too.

Stock CR will be fine on near 100HP boost, esp. with forged internals. WIll be ok on nitrous too, just get good gas.

I would say get the L32 rods versus the L67. The L32 are factory forged.
