• What do the custom cams on our cars sound like?

I listened to the GTP on this site, and that thing sounds pretty mean. How do the cams on our cars sound compared to that? Are they that rough? Are they at least noticably different from stock sound-wise? Also, which cam would be better assuming I got the SuperSix Powerpack, the custom ground Comp Cams one, or the one that SuperSix makes them selves? Right now, I'm assuming no power adders like nitrous or forced induction, but they are a possibility in the distant future.

Thats definetly a cammed 3800 - I dont know which he is running but thats a really aggressive cam - I it.

Is the rough idle caused by a difference between the intake and exhaust durations?

My cam doesn't sound that agressive.. it does chop though..

idle is kinda rough. Car surges at stop lights and such.

Last weekend this girl asked me if the car was supposed to shake like that.

Tighter lobe seperation and split durations make for a more choppy cam.

      Mine is 212/212 112.

My cam at idle is rougher than that especially with the cutout open. It's the split duration that makes the lopey idle. My cam is 210/214 and it's almost one big lope. Lots of cam surge, car won't hardly idle cold and drops do about 4-500 rpms when the clutch goes it at a stoplight.

If I leave the door adjar it will open and close itself with every lope. Watching the brake fluid slosh back in forth in the resivor is cool too. (insert butthead laugh here) Installation of the blower has only enhanced the effects of the cam.

Isn't it great when someone asks you if your car is supposed to shake like that? gotta love it!

One day I'll get some vids of the car at idle converted to avi format.

I can't tell Keith has a cam in his car. Seriously dude. :D Maybe it's just me or it's the insensitive side talking. I'm going with split duration just to get that real mans idle.

Who is going to finally buy some clay? There is got to be someone mechanically inclinded enough to play with clay. I want my valves and pistions to share outer electrons at peak lift.

Some guy who lives down the street from me is a machinist and he works ate h&h machine where he builds race car motors, i didnt take my motor to them but anyway he says claying is for boys, men use gauges to test clearance issues.

I've got a box of clay sitting in the intake valley of my old motor. I was waiting for Tom @ SSM to finish those rockers and I was going to clay the clearance of the new rockers to the valve cover. But if you have to me a man about it I have a dial indicator also. I need to get around to pulling the heads and claying the piston to valve clearance.

You put the clay in the combustion chamber and turn the motor over to measure the piston to valve clearance. This will tell you how much room you have for lift without smacking a piston with a valve.

Hey guys, I have an update to this post. I finally got a video clip of my car up with the cam idle. The volume is a little low so make sure to turn it up. You can also hear the blower spin too, but it's a quiet powerdyne.

The car sounds great but I have 2 questions. Are you running a cut-out? And 2, what's that piece of sh!t mustang doing in the middle of all the Camaro's?
