• In the process of heads install.

Boy is this time consuming. Well I started heads install tonight. Didnt get much done but its a start. I have the alternator off, serp belt egr valve off, engine lift bracket on driver side is off, plug wires, coils are off, driver side valve cover is off but I cant seem to find out how to remove the engine lift bracket on the passenger side. Any ideas? I dont see any nuts or bolts on it. But then maybe I cant see the whole thing. So whats the trick?

This takes twice as long when reading the Haynes manual for install tips. I have kinda set it asside for the last little while and just used my brain instead. Oh boy its 3am here and I am tired as a mofo. I have tommarow off so I will be working more on the car then.

I think the brakets are bolted to the heads, just leave them on and unbolt the heads and pull it all out together. I would pull as much out of the engine together as possible, saves stress

in the far back of the head there is a bolt that sticks out.. there should be a nut on the end, take that nut off and disconnect the tranny fluid tube..

Tiago brings up a VERY VERY great idea.. Just remove the head.. the bracket is attached to it.

Let us know how that method works.

A good tip is to wear weight lifting gloves.. your finger tips are exposed to thread bolts and such yet your knuckles and palm are protected to prevent scratches from things like the damn cowl!

            Another tip that might help...

I don't think you can get the pass side valve cover off with that bracket in the way. That bottom corner valve cover bolt is real close to the bracket and hard to get to. I took a hammer and beat mine back about 1 inch, it bends easily. This gave me enough room to remove the valve cover so you can get the valvetrain out of the head.

Then do like Keith said and just remove it with the head. When you install the new heads I'd say just leave the bracket off. If someday you need to pull the motor just bolt it back on then. They put those damn bolts on the back of the head in so tight I couldn't get mine to budge on the car. I had to wait till the motor was out and use a breaker bar to get them loose.

Yea thats why I was asking is because I cant get that last valve cover bolt off. I guess I will just try bending it. And if thats all there for is to lift the engine out I think I will keep them off. What a stupid design to put them so closly to bolts.

OK, guys you are always great help. But please check this post many many times through out the day because I am more than positive I will have more dumb questions like this.

Mike Huff gave me his # and I called him a few times during my cam install.. made the thing go a LOT faster. Thanks Mike.

Im having some trouble with the lower intake manifold. It seems to have all the bolts off. But it wont break loose. I counted 10 bolts. How many go on the lower intake manifold? Whats the trick?

Oh and what special tool is required to get the fuel lines off the fuel rail? I just kinda worked around them with them still attached. Where can I get a tool to take these lines off and how much does it cost?

the tool for the fuel lines is a couple bucks at autozone, you will prolly have to pry hard on the intake manifold.

Tiago is right you have to just pry on the intake manifold, when i did mine i just stuck a pry bar under there and popped it off, it makes a weird suction noise :D

Ok but how many botlts are on the intake manifold? I got 10. Also I heard not to pry on the manifold because it ruins the surface of where the gasket goes. Is this true or should I pry away?

Just be careful... but it's gonna be hard for a crowbar to make anything of a dent in that iron block.

Just pry slowly but forcefully. Make sure as much grip as possible.

I cant help you on the # of bolts thing.
