• Cam is in... Have one minor problem...

Well after 9 hours the cam went in, everything runs fine and the only code i got was from not putting the gas cap on after reliveing the pressure... (DOH!) But at idle the car seems to drop the volt meter down and it surges the lights kinda dim. This i blieve is mainly from the hard idle causing the tensioner to loosen up around the movement of the motor... Would a higher output alternator fix this problem?

But for the good news: The cam i bought is a boost/Nitrous cam, but running N/A for the moment... 210/220 .512/.512 115 LSA Power is very noticeable, comes in at about 2700-3000 RPMS and pulls into the rev limiter (need to raise that a few hundred or so) Plan on getting it to the dyno in a few weeks once all the ticks and rattles are out of it. I have ran the marked 1/4 mile by my house and havent timed it, but seem to be hitting the mark at a bout 95 MPH, so we'll see in a week or two what it does for real when the track opens again.

but other than the voltage problem everything went well, did it by myself over 2 days. and i DID NOT have to pull the radiator, condenser, OR fans its just a matter of moving a wire harness that crosses the fans.

Once the new numbers and times are in I will update, I believe I am the only one running this cam, and I guess I am the guinea pig but I have no problems with that. I wanted to be different and go a little off the common path.

Later everyone, keep the rubber side down!

your power band is now gonna be shifted high. as in seppo's little 210/210 cam basicly was peaking at 6K and thats with a small lsa your large lsa will move your power band up even more, 6500+ easy

where did you guys get the crazy idea that a larger lsa will move the power band up?

              this is from cranes website

quote:
What is Camshaft Lobe Separation and how does it affect the engine?

Lobe separation is the distance (in camshaft degrees) that the intake and exhaust lobe centerlines (for a given cylinder) are spread apart. Lobe separation is a physical characteristic of the camshaft and cannot be changed without regrinding the lobes.

This separation determines where peak torque will occur within the engine's power range. Tight lobe separations (such as 106°) cause the peak torque to build early in basic RPM range of the cam. The torque will be concentrated, build quickly and peak out. Broader lobe separations (such as 112°) allow the torque to be spread over a broader portion of the basic RPM range and shows better power through the upper RPM.

ie it moves the power band up

i read it on a diffrent site where it said more but cant find it

Ok, I know my motor will rev high, but thats not my real problem/question.. I have all that taken care of...

Just wondering if a higher output alternator will keep the power from surging during the idle...
