  • How picky is the PCM?

this is for a 01 camaro specifically, but I'm sure its on any obdII based fbody.

Let just say I got the SSM powerpak, and new internals : rods and pistions, maybe even rockers.

Would that throw an SES light, or any codes? And if so, would our great Keith be able to do a quick reprogramming to (I'm guessing if it threw a code it'd be intake wise) accomodate increased air?

AND what if I got this bad boy bored out?

I'm judt throwing ideas out, trying to understand the limits of the PCM

the main things that are going to cause SES lights

    -misfire
    -knock
-cant maintain an even enough idle
-runs too rich or too lean
-runs too cold (coolant) too long (fixed with resistor.

If you dont have those problems, you likely wont have a SES!

ok, so the PCM wouldnt think somethings wrong if its getting too much intake air? Thats good news, I was told (or thats how I took it) that it was extremely picky, and had more control then I guess it really does.

With that out of the way, how easy is it for the pcm to understand that it is getting more air, and it is easier to get rid of exhaust gas? I hear resetting it help, but then I hear it doesnt and you have to drive it for miles. So how long before it catches on and I'm able to use the extent of the internals work?

It bases all part throttle data on sensor readings and has a limit of adjustability... For long term data you need new charts to run on, otherwise it will likely lean out @ WOT.
