For the kind of money and work involved I think a cam is a better way to go if you have an F body. Having said that if you are going to buy a different rocker then why not do the best. The latest issues of GM HP showed a dyno gain of 9WHP after installing the SLP rockers. That sucks.

At ZZP we dyno tested 13 different rocker ratio setups on the L36 and I can tell you that 1.8/1.8 is far from optimal. In fact it's one of the worst combos you could pick.

Thank you Zoomer, that was very well put.

Yeah, but you lose driveability to a small point, fuel economy, tuning issues come up and so on.

SLP rockers are a direct bolt on. No tuning, fuel economy possible increases, drivabilty is not affected.

I met the owner of the V6 that was in GMHTP for the rocker install. I saw the car.
He is now pushing mid 190's rwhp.

Personally I think it could be a good mod for someone who has a decent amount of mods.

Thanks Tom for all the info!!!!

        Very reasonable price too!

I agree with 12 sec v-6. It is a good mod for someone who wants more "reliable" every day use and doesn't maybe need or want an extra 20hp.

I would like to check out the 1.9 ratio rockers, but I did not get alot of answer back on them. I would assume you need differnt lenght pushrods etc... but I got minimal answers from manufactures. On this board I posted about it and some folks felt 1.9 ratio was too much.

Well if 1.9 is too much, and 1.8 is less than optimal what is a good rocker ratio that IS optimal? ;)

I'm with the other guys - So if SLP has it so wrong, what's the figures from all the dyno pulls and what's the one that's so much better???

            Thanks - Ron

James, for CHEAPER you could get a RELIABLE MILD cam that does more than just increase lift..

You could go with say a 206/206 .506/.506 113LS and have more power and easy every day use without tuning issues.

quote:
but.. $530+ is way to steep IMHO for the slp kit.. so.. its a toss up.. I really cant decide.. if the slp kit was sub 500 i would definantly be willing to give it a shot.. and do some dyno testing to see my gains.. ohh well.. maybe i will just "wait a while"->(lol.. just like school work)...

If there are 5 or more people interested in ordering this package we can get the price down to $495. with shipping (free shipping applies to the continental 48 states). This would save about $70. off what SLP would get for them.

                Hope this helps,
                Tom

I'd be number 2 and can do it right now
Tom, would you like e mails or wait to see feedback on the possible GP?
I sent you an e mail just in case.

Keith, I hear ya on this.
But, if I went for a cam I'd want to do it right and get every possible hp out of it. I'd then probably get something more than the stock puter could handle. Even with Superchips adjusting my puter, maf translator, bigger fuel pump, possibly different injectors and afpr I may not be able to maximize the tuning possibilities so I'd go to a DFI system and never worry about tuning.

I think, to me, I'd go the rocker route first, then cam.

                    You do make sense though

Tom.. quick question.. How good are the instructions for this kit? are they f-body specific?

If the instructions are good.. then I am in!!
I can get the cash out as soon, as the order system is set up..

Here is some of the data ZZP collected while checking HP gains of different rocker combos on an L36. #'s are not directly comparible to the SLP #'s in the mag because they used a standard transmission which has less loss and gives higher #'s. As you can see a symetrical ratio is not very good. Couple that with the high cost of the SLP rockers and the other available choices and I don't know why anyone would purchase them.

and here's the volumetric efficiency comparison:

Dude, those sheets dont even have numbers with a 1.8 ratio rocker arm?? So, its somewhat of an inconclusive report..

Correct me if i am wrong, but am assuming that these numbers are from mixed and matched Intense gen 2 rockers.. and the new intense (aluminum roller rocker) kits are no cheeper... unless you want modded stock parts..

I meen if you can show me how to get a mixed rockers like that for cheeper then slp I may be interested..

I dunno.. thanks for the info though..

We commissioned the help of a man nick-named Wizbang who teaches a class called design of experiments. It's a class that teaches you how to extrapolate results for any situation by doing an experiment with only a few tests. In other words rather than testing 100's of rocker combos we can now calculate the expected performance of any ratio combo simply from the data collected from the 12 charts. This tells us that the L36 doesn't like a symetrical ratio. You can do just the intake or just the exhaust and get a better result than doing them both actually. In fact if you only installed 6 of your SLP rockers on the intakes you would most likely gain more HP than doing all 12. We have been selling split ratio rockers at ZZP since day one. The optimum ratio will be available soon and dubbed ER for extended range performance.
