yuou can do .600 lift with out piston issues, but you have to get head work for over .530 lift on the 3.8 motor.

Piston to valve clearance is more closely related to duration of your cam of choice than the lift. There are a ton of HIGH lift cams that don't have problems because of less duration, yet lower lift with high duration can have problems. Just an FYI.www.fullthrottlev6.com THE SOURCE!

for the short block, I'd wait and get the 4.1 stroker kit w/ some low compression pistons, between 8.0 and 8.5. take the entire rotating assembly, and balance it to 50%, remove the balance chaft, and have it all shot-peened and cryo'd. Also make sure the piston tops are thermal coated and the skirts are anti-friction coated. The thermal coating will keep the low-end cooler, and the anti-friction coating will reduce frictional power losses.
The Intense Stage 3 heads will be a great upgrade, but have 1 major drawback. U have to use leaded fuel additive to prevent the valve seats from being eaten away. read about it on Intense's website. I'd just get a good set of SSM heads w/ the combustion chambers enlarged and coated w/ thermal coating, as well as the valve faces. Stainless intake valves are good, and possibly using Inconel exhaust valves will reduce top-end heat soak from that valve since it sees so much heat. Based on head flow and blower type, match ur cam to that. if the heads flow well up high, have higher lift. if the blower is centrifugal, and the boost doesn't come on till higher rpm, then get a somewhat smaller lobe separation, 111-113.
get the lightest valvetrain parts possible for higher rpm use and less hp loss.2001 Arctic White Firebird
More mods than I\'m allowed to list!

Depends on what you are trying to do, and how much boost you are looking for. If you want internals worth a ****, go with Intense. And if you are seriously going to use a good amount of boost, make the engine to L67 specs instead of L36. Go to www.intense-racing.com. Got any question, shoot me a PM.1995 Pontiac Firebird

L67 Pistons or Custom Forged Pistons/Rings
L32 Connecting Rods
Turbo Spec Cam
Ported Heads/Intake/Throttle Body
Bigger Valves
Roller Lifters
Stronger Pushrods
Stronger Valve Springs
Gaskets
Machined Crankshaft
Larger Fuel Injectors
That would be a very good rebuild, but if you want to go lightweight go with.
L67 Pistons
L32 Connecting Rods
Stronger Pushrods
Turbo Spec Cam
Stronger Valve Springs
Gaskets
Larger Fuel Injectors
That would be alot cheaper, but if your going to rebuild your engine you might as well do as much as you can.
I personally am probably going to buy a whole new longblock for 1700$
I could probably get 200$ for the pistons and connecting rods, 30$ for springs and retainers, $25 for connecting rods, $30 for lifters
So you figure $1500 for a new longblock, then id have to most likely get a new timming set 89$ New oil pump, new water pump, thermostat, spark plugs, wires, coils, motor mounts, new pulleys, new tensioner, new belt. so thats another 200-400 bucks. So the price gets up there, i figure if i build a strong bottom end, and do what is needed the most on the top end ill be fine and dandy.

if your runing hig boost 15+ PSI all the it i would get forgde pistons at least, i like the coadted ones but dont have to, coated would be good for high boost plus NOS shotwww.turbov6camaro.com

How insane do u wanna go w/ the motor? That's the main question that I shoulda asked u first, cuz some ppl feel that just adding a sc or turbo is good enough, and others wanna take it to the max.
For others who have mentioned it, why stick w/ stock displacement when the stroker kit will be out soon? More displacement will help make a lot more power out of a boosted motor. On average, with our motors, we gain about 1 hp per cubic inch gain on the top end. If this is true, then going ffrom 3.8, which is 231 cu. inches, to 4.1, 249 cu. inches, meaning a theoretical gain of 18 hp, on a NA car. boosted motors will of course make better use of this displacement, and along w/ heads and cam, this will help a lot.
Just to put this into perspective, a Mitsu EVO 8 got a 2.2 stroker kit(from 2.0 liters) put in it w/ just intake and exhaust mods, and gained 50 rwtq. yes, dohc 4v design helps that power output a lot, but that was on a motor 1/2 our size. Just think what our stroker kit could be capable of.2001 Arctic White Firebird
More mods than I\'m allowed to list!

Oh yeah man im looking at all the angles. Im still in the planning stages now. i want to put a good amount of boost from 8-10lbs. enough that would be able to really be a nice addition to the built motor. The SC will not be the power but just a adder to give me a nice boost1997 Firebird M5
Bright Red
Mods: SLP Intake, Autometer A/F Gauge, Magnaflow CatBack Exhaust, BMR STB, Cragar SS rims W/ Nittos on front and BFG drags on back

Stock Dyno Numbers: 170hp and 210lbs TQ
