  • Gas milage

For all people with the 3.8L with a aftermarket cam. How much gas milage did you lose when you switched to a bigger cam. And also to all those with heavily modded 3.8Ls what kind of gas milage are you getting. I am just curious as to how much more i am going to be spending a month on gas when i start getting into the heavy mods on my car. Thanks.

umm well, i dont have my mods in just yet, but if you put cam in, im going to say if you got a feather foot, you will stay about the same, if you show off the cam, well you get the idea, same thing with turbo and such, they give you better milage... to a point, then you have to dump more fuel in for the large amounts of air

Agreed, the more you show-boat the less mileage you'll get. But just for one example, since I put The Rumbler on my car, I've been doing a little more hot-rodding than normal. I filled up m tank yesterday, and I always check my mileage. Even with my driving habits (I have the pedal down alot) I got 20.9 mpg. So just because you get a cam (even a relatively large cam), doesn't mean you have to lose your gas mileage.

make sure ignition is upgraded to burn all the air/fuel mixture. Even stock cars have too weak of an ignition, shown by the MSD-DIS-4 test on a stock f-body gaining about 2 mpg compared to stock.
