Notice that part #'s
1. 12480831 intake set
2. 24504789 upper set
are for '98 up intake manifolds. The prior '98 are a tiny bit different because they dont have the pin holes that hold the lower intake gasket to the block. Everyone might tell you to get the intake kit. The kit includes upper and lower gaskets and will still work but does not have the correct lower intake gasket. I have checked with the dealer and GM parts direct and there is no kit for the '98 up intake gasket.
Also I have been told the valve cover gasket part # includes both gaskets. Gm parts direct told me I need to order 2 of them.
I ordered my gaskets friday.
Whats the specs on your cam?

The red dots are where 98+ blocks have gasket guide pin holes. ;)
BTW, I made this pic almost a year ago to point out that difference. Also 98+ have different injectors.Keith - Chicago
HP Tuners - PCM Reprogramming
97 Firebird V6 to LS1 swap
V8 9.967@132.78 1.322 60\' NA Heads/Cam
V8 10.295@128.48 1.363 60\' NA Cam Only
V8 10.987@119.31 1.422 60\' NA Stock Internals
V6 13.674@98.22 NA
V6 12.394@104.91 N20 100HP

hehehe....not sure actually. scott doesn't want to give away his specs but he says it's almost identical to zzp's gt cam so there'll only be maybe a 2-3 hp diff, but i trust him. i've been following his work on his bonneville and gp's since he came in the picture and he's smart and serious about his work and he has the fastest naturally aspirated gp in the country running his parts.i was swimming in the carribean. animals were hiding behind the rocks except for the little fish, but they told me the squid\'s trying to talk to me. oink, oink. where is my mind?

Here is another reference pic of the 98 block to show where the holes are.

Now I'm confused, don't think I ever noticed the difference on my 96 long block. I have a 98 top end on it but haven't had any problems or issues with it.Michael Huff
92 RS, 98 V6, 97 SS, 00 Z28
http://www.carolinafbodyclub.com/

These are the part numbers I used and I guess they were for the 95-07 motor.
12537616 - Upper/Lower intake set.
12539095 - Same but includes head gaskets.
Now that I think about it the stock ones I took off were orange and did have those pin holes. I used blue gaskets without the holes to line up on the re-install. A lot of RTV and they sealed ok with no leaks both times I pulled the intake.
So basicly for 98+ you need to buy the upper intake and lower intake gaskets seperately to get the correct piece for the front and back of the block?Michael Huff
92 RS, 98 V6, 97 SS, 00 Z28
http://www.carolinafbodyclub.com/

Are you upgrading your Valve Springs & Retainers? I have ZZPerformance's GT cam so once we are both up and running we could compare our results.
[edit] 12480831 is the intake gasket kit for 97+ and includes upper, lower, and the 2 o-rings. http://www.ammperformance.com/V6InterEngine.htm

nah i can only afford the cam right now and i bought it without knowing the specs cause like i said i trust him and what he's done for the 3800 community so i don't mind not knowing. this is just a mild cam i'm only looking for a modest boost in horsepower. when i get into ported heads and all that crap, supercharger, whatever i'll worry about picking specs but this'll be a good cam for a little fun now.i was swimming in the carribean. animals were hiding behind the rocks except for the little fish, but they told me the squid\'s trying to talk to me. oink, oink. where is my mind?

I also used that part # one time. Comparing my stock lower intake gaskets with the ones from the kit they still would have easily worked. They just dont have the pin holes on the gaskets. I ended up not using them and sold the kit to magnus.

Your brave for buying the mistery cam. I contacetd them about there cams a long long time ago via email and they did email me the specs. I wonder if there the same. I will try and dig up that email when I get home.
Sure a little cam is a little bit of fun. I have a small aftermarket cam now. I regret ever buying such a small cam. So now I have a 218/218 sitting under my bed that if all goes as planned will be installed next weekend. I just dont want to see other members going through the same thing.
