  • Heads Install: UPDATE, Wont Idle

So I got the fuel injectors to stop leaking. I replaced all the O rings. Car is all the way put back together with one problem.

The car wont idle. I can rev it up and it will rev high and feels normal but it wont idle, Idle goes down to about 500 rpm and then dies.

I think this may be related from my exhaust problem but I need a second opinion. I cross threaded one of the bolts that connects the exhaust manifold to the y pipe. On one side it is sealed fine but on the other side the y pipe is not connected to the exhaust manifold. Could this cause my car to do this? Maybe not enough backpressure cause my car to not idle? Please help.

Magnus: If I dont get this problem resolved soon I am going to give you a call and let you listen to it.

What are you cam specs.. who made it.

You say one side is not connected to the y-pipe AT ALL?????

You need the y-pipe on the primaries.. the o2's come very close to the flanges. if the y-pipe is not on, the o2's will pick up a TON of air from the outside and the readings will be way off.

The Y pipe is all the way connected on the driver side. The passenger side it is off, but the pipe sits right underneath the manifold but its not bolted on at all.

I have no cam. I am installing just the heads for now. But dont worry, cam comes shortly after. I couldnt take the feeling knowing that I have a set of heads sitting in my garage and not be able to put them on. So heads are on now and cam will follow.

I also port and plished my intake manifold. Could this affect it?

The car is on Empty. Do you think it could be im just out of gas? Not getting enough fuel pressure? I thought about this but I can rev up the car. It will rev up smooth. If I were out of gas I would think this would be impossible.

        Any ideas?

        Im kinda stumped.

One other thing is I did use the same plugs that were in the old heads. They are only a few thousand miles old and look in great shape. While taking off the heads I broke one of them. So I replaced one of them with the same kind of plug only it was from a plug change way before. Still looks in as good of shape as all the others.

        Need some help guys

There is a hose that comes off the Brake Booster(not sure if thats what its called) Its on the passenger side down by the egr valve. Its a black hose with some kind of fitting bracket on the end. I cant find what this hose plugs into. Maybe this is part of my problem.

My gtp has a line from right behind the TB to the brake booster. That line has to go to the intake manifold or nearby. What you are describing is that you have a vacuum leak, that might very well be it.

                Dee thanks for the info.

I have discovered another problem. I put the EGR Valve on backwards. So it doesnt seel. That might be another vaccume leak. I have put on some high heat gasket maker because Local parts store has to order the gasket and it will take a week. Gasket maker takes 24 hours to cure. I will post tommarow with results.

Please any more info keep posting.

Definitly sounds vacuum related, not sure what book your working from but if it has vacuum diagrams it would be a great help to you at this point.
