  • Rocker Arms and Tuning

If you go higher ratio rocker arms, do you need tuning like you would with a cam to see the difference? What kind of gains would I see from, say, 1.9 rockers with full intake and exhaust both tuned and stock tuned?

Also, if I don't raise the shift points, am I going to see valve float on 1.9s from an otherwise stock valvetrain?

I say should. My 1.8/1.85s bounce off the rev limiter like crazy when I floor mine. I want to have mine raised.

      Yes.

Any car will gain power with tuning. Rockers by themselves don't need a huge amount of tuning, but it's always a good idea so you get the most power out of it.

Tuning can get expensive. Finish your engine and then tune...if desired. Tuning not mandatory like when you do a big cam swap.

With otherwise stock motor (and/or smooth/cold intake and/or fat aftermarket exhaust) you will notice a new increased powerband from about 4000 rpm and up. About 10 hp if you don't have fat exhaust...high ratio rockers and fat exhaust will compliment each other for a better gain.

Many people do get valve float at 5600 rpm or so.
I used a hypertech to lower my rev limiter to 5500 until I got new LS6 valve springs. That fixed me right up.

          What he said.

I finally got my LS6 springs in as well. WOOT. Love that 6K powerband.
