  • cam timing might be off??

Hey its me again what a suprise. umm well a couple of my friends think my timing might be off and now that they have been talkin im thinkin they might be right. On the crank sprocket (this is the little one if u dont know which it is) is there a dot or do u line it up with the dampener key. This might get bad... Any pics of the crank sprocket would be nice or suggestions or hey if u think this isnt the problem i dont know... Its a 3.4 and it runs fer like 5 seconds and then quits.. the plugs foul out and it smells flooded whats goin on?
Well thanks again for all that have been helping i know this is probably annoying to everyone on the boards but hey im jus reachin out fer help.....

    While I don't know...

I am going to complain about why you didn't just reply to your original message.

It's a pet peeve for most of us here.

Its ok by me. Create as many topics as needed. Its a pet peeve of mine to scroll through a 5 page post when the topic keeps changing. I say if its a different issue which it is, Running rich vs. timing create a new thread. Two different problems and two different questions.

I'm gonna have to agree with Cale..

This is advanced tech.. I'd like to see less topics with more info than more topics with less info..

You could always rename the title of your original topic.. or add *UPDATED*..

if the timing was off, it wouldn't cause it to foul the plugs .

I don't think it's cam timing. 3.4 is SFI and requires a cam position trigger for it to operate correctly. Unless your cam was reground over an original 3.4 cam core you probably are missing the trigger. Without the trigger, SFI degrades to batch fire mode causing erratic idle, etc - a condition you will now have to live with.

You probably also disconnected the power to the PCM during your cam swap, thereby resetting the PCM. It has forgotten everything it knew about your engine's A/F requirements and now needs to relearn which you can only do by driving around for an hour or two.

            You're in a tough spot!
