From what they were saying it was just the stroker kit that gives you 240. What would the kit give you, according to you, and what would I need to do to get it to 240?

On the site it says they ahve lots of mods done to it right after they say it dyno'd 240 without tuning.
It also says you will get roughly a 10% increase in power...so thats how much I'd say it would add...but it also gives the potential to create more horsepower because it has more displacement.
I have no doubts you could easily get this into the 270 range with a good cam and tuning.Shawn
2002 Silver W68 Firebird

I did a little bit of reading, and first off, failures are caused by imperfections in the metal. What that means is that every crank you test will hold a different amount of HP before it lets go, so until someone goes out and breaks more than just one, you can't really get a good idea of what they will hold. According to my material science book, iron and titanium alloys are the only metals that can with stand infinite cyclic loads(power level at which they will never fail due to a cyclic load). Depending on the alloy this level is generaly 40%-60% less than the absolute strength of the material. So the stroker crank would have a limit of less than 225whp. This means it would probably run for a long time at 270whp -300whp depending mostly on how much you beat on your car, but it would eventualy fail due to cyclic loads.
GM spent one hell of a lot of money developing these engines, and they did a damn good job. Think about what you are doing your making your engine 25% weaker, and at the same time you are adding strain. Do it right or don't do it at all.Turbocharged and intercooled.
17psi(oops), stock fuel pump, no FMU
http://www.cardomain.com/id/phoenix64
Video: ftp://ftp.pfabrication.com Assorted car ****: TurboCamaroFull.

Lets say I just bought what the kit gave me and got a shop to install it. No other supporting mods like a new cam because $1500 plus the install is already a lot to spend. Now what do you think my times and RWHP would be after this install? I don't want to know what could be possible in the future, just what the kit alone would give me. I'm on a very tight budget so I can't really be thinking about supporting mods right now1996 BLack Camaro 3.8L V6 w/ Flowmaster 80 series, NGK plugs, SLP CAI, custom ram air mod, 600watt Kenwood and 2 10\' JL audio subs.

If you just did the crank nothing else, you wouldn't see much hp. You would get more out of a big cam than the stroker kit alone. Plus a cam would be around 500$. The stroker kit installed would be 3500 or more.

And like was said...the kit itself won't give you a lot of power...you need more mods with it and together they will give you more power than your engine could give you right now with the same mods.Shawn
2002 Silver W68 Firebird

Alright guys, thanks for the clearing that up for me.
I was planning on having $2000 to spend by the end of this summer on something for my car and was looking at all options whether it be making more power for my 6 or upgrading to an LT1. I'm just not sure how much i can expect to get for my car if i sold it, plus i'm starting college next school year. Lot of different variables i have to work with.
My want for V8 power is making me go nuts, as i'm sure some of you have had the same experience. I work real hard for my money but its not enough to do anything with, between car insurance, car payment, gas etc, there just isn't any extra. I guess patience is the key.
Sorry for the long post, i had to vent my frustration somehow.1996 BLack Camaro 3.8L V6 w/ Flowmaster 80 series, NGK plugs, SLP CAI, custom ram air mod, 600watt Kenwood and 2 10\' JL audio subs.

Save your money, buy a z28 when you can afford it, like after college. You'll be a lot happier with it. Its difficult to enjoy a car when it is consuming every last penny you have. There is no question that a new forged crank would be a much better solution for the stroker kit. The problem is that the best price we've found on a crank alone is $2400. Adding rods, bearings and the other parts to the kit and it would have to sell for over 3 grand. There would be no point in building this with stock pistons so adding forged pistons would bring the cost to 4k. You'd have a bad *** block which would handle a lot but 4k into the bottom end alone (which doesn't include assembly) is a lot of $.
Using a reworked crank does make the engine weaker but these cranks stock are used in supercharged and non SC'd from the factory. How many people here are making over 350WHP?
The kit is really for people who enjoy natural power and want to setup their car as such. One person made mention that every crank will have a different failure point. That is true, however the production kits have some small changes to make them stronger than the one that failed. This should mean that each one sent out is at least as strong as the setup which tested to failure.

I too am wondering how many people here are acctually running more than 350whp.
You guys are acting like its gonna snap quickly...but really...if you were getting 350whp out of your 6's thats awesome.
I for one think this is really cool, I just don't have the money to be the first to get this.Shawn
2002 Silver W68 Firebird
