• Computer Issue/Question

After much research I have found that it is nearly impossible to run a 160stat in a 2002 without much time, effort, and money. Luckily, I have found a PCM from a 2000 M5 Camaro which fully supports the 160 stat .

I would like to swap my PCM out for this 2000 PCM, but I am worried that while it might work I might need to "recalibrate" or do something more than just "swap it out" for it to work.

When my 02's PCM was replaced (first one was faulty) they had to program it with my crank position/balancing code, or something of that nature... Will I need to do this if I swap PCMs with this 2000?

Also, will my odometer still be the same, or is it kept in the PCM somewhere? I really don't want my car showing it has 40,000 miles on it when its got only 4500.

I appreciate any help, I would like to order this pcm as soon as possible. Thanks everyone!

they will need to do that again. its specific to your engine/crank pulley.

i believe this is stored in the instrument cluster not in the pcm.

Hmmmm. I just put a 97 PCM in mine without doing anything else. Car seems to run fine. I don't know what this crank position code was for? Wonder if I need one.

I just wonder how willing my dealer would be to reprogram this 2000 PCM for me with the proper code

from the service manual, it said you should have the pcm 'relearn' the crank position sensor if you replace the crank pulley.

swapping the pcm from another engine is essentially changing the crank pulley.

i suspect though that things should be similar enough that you shouldnt have serious problems. its probably still a good idea to have it done.

one other thing, you need to be sure all the sensors are the same, including things like abs, maf. i cant see why they wouldnt be though.
