  • Update on Slacker's Car not good.

Well car started off runing darn good when i first installed the heads and cam.

Then i install a 3800 stall and i started to get some nasty KR and ran me a best of 15.2@86 mph.

I installed some resisters on the knock sensors and car ran great for like 4 days.

So i started to spray on the street again just a 50 shot and car ran good.

Well two days before my dyno day car started misfireing so on the dyno day i did a wire change and i didnt see any misfires on the dyno so thats good.

    Dyno numbers were ok NA.
Before heads and cam with a 3000 stall and 3.42 gears.I dynoed
    164hp with 232 TQ.
Weeks later i ran my 14.34@91mph

Now with heads and cam and 3800 stall and unprogramed 3.73's
    195hp no TQ showed up
This is only running the car to 5500 rpms cause of the unprogramed gears. Whice is a 31 hp gain.

Well i had him make one dyno pass on the 100 shot. I used a rich jet so i wouldnt go lean and the bottle was cold only like 700 psi and it was like 105 outside.
    264 and no TQ reading
dyno graph looks funny for the nitrous run.

Well about two days later the car started misfiring again with no bad plugs or wires and coil packs look clean. Then the next day i started burning oil. I can smoke up an entire stoplight.

Now performance has really dropped off. I am being told it is one of two things from some people i know. It is a valve that is stuck or no sealing or piston ring is gone. Let me know if yall have any suggestions.

More likely a piston ring. It is one of the more common engine problems on the L67. Do a compression test. Obviously, you can bet it will be low in that cylinder. Then add a teaspoon of oil. If the compression goes up, it is likely the ring. If not, it may be a valve issue.

If the rings are gone i will be ordering some low compression like 8:01 compression ross racing pistons and some GTP rods that i will have hardened. And i will take a crank to go get hardened. and the i will assemble and drive a low compression monster for a while. While i save up for a Tiago turbo special. He wants to use a T72 turbo i dont know about that but we will find something. I want to run for sure between 15-20 psi. With a intercooler and i will spray on the intercooler and spray a 100 shot out of the hole in order to help turbo spool off the line. With time and money on my side i hope to have this all done before next spring at the latest.

if you're going turbo heres what i got from dave inall of incon turbos about getting 500rwhp outa a v6.

"We get asked about this every now and then and I'll start by giving you our standard answer. You do not say RWHP or Flywheel, however I'll assume RWHP, Dynojet.
You can swap in an LS1, making 400-425 RWHP with just heads, cam and exhaust, for a FRACTION of what the V6 FI exercise is going to cost you.
However, if you are hell bent on being a trail blazer and hang the expense, the following should do it. I have assumed your 500 number to be the objective and to be RWHP.

                          1) heads and intake; These need to be prepped and then flowed bolted together. You need at least 180CFM through the inlet port, WITH the intake bolted to it. I do not know if this is even possible. You need 140 CFM through the exhaust, without exceding a 1.375" dia port.

                          2) A single T60 turbo with 0.68, tangential mount, dual entry, turbine housing. 1 3/8" ID headers. ( 1 1/2" OD if built from the normal 16 ga tube.). I strongly suggest at least 304SS. Each bank enters the turbine housing seperately.

3)210-215 degrees @ 0.050" with around 0.500" lift at the valve on 114 degrees should take care of the cam.

good luck hope you can fix your car for now though!
i was swimming in the carribean. animals were hiding behind the rocks except for the little fish, but they told me the squid\'s trying to talk to me. oink, oink. where is my mind?
