  • Need a new bottom end to hold up from lots of nitrous

I wasted my bottom end on a nitrous pass at the chassis dyno. You can read about it more in the lounge if you so desire.

My crankshaft is fine, but my pistons neen to be replaced, and while I am down there, I might as well do the rods. I am on a budget of $1,663.50, so I don't want to hear "LS1 swap". Lets here some suggestions.

GTP rods and Intense forged and coated 9.5:1 compression pistons. Those should hold a 150 shot as long as u jet the shot right.

I think I will get the ross flat top pistons from amm. They will keep my CR low enough to use 91 octane. With stock head gaskets, that should net me about 10.3 on my CR.

WHere do I get L67 connecting rods? Do I need those or is it safe for me to re use my stock rods?

          l67 are forged too

l32's just look to be stonger because of more material

also i have heard you have to grind some of the rod away to get it to work with the intense pistons. read over at clubgp

Aren't those rods shorter than stock L36 rods?

I am not building a boosted motor. I am trying for about 10.3:1 compression.

be careful using a nitrous shot w/ too high of a compression ratio.

L67's are NOT forged.. nothing in the L67 is forged for that matter.

The L32 Rods are of the hot forged powdered metal variety. Plus if you plan on running a huge shot, a small drop in compression may be beneficial in the long run. Whatever you do DO NOT get the MLS gaskets, if I had to guess i'd say roughly 70% of them leak and never seal properly.

I agree with those guys. Lots of NOS and high compression engines can = very bad things. Although 10to1 and a 100hp shot (wet) wouldnt be bad. Ofcourse you are already running a wet system right? And a onboard fuel management system or at least a laptop plugged in to see what the engine is doing?

The Ross pistons I wanted from AMM are unavailable. There is a 6-8 week lead time.

The intense 9.5:1 uncoated pistons can be at my door in 2 weeks, which is much more feasable for me. I am going to call intense tomorrow and order them, along with most of the other rebuild stuff req'd.

I am gonna get new connecting rods from GMpartsdirect. I can't decide on the L67 or new L32 rods right now. I will ask the intense guy tommorrow when I call him.

As far as compression in concerned, I am thinking about milling my heads about .020-.025 and decking my block about .010 to raise the CR back up to the 10:1 ballpark. I am slightly concerned about valve/piston clearance with that much milling and decking though. My current cam lifts the intake valve .498", but in the future I might get SLP rockers and have my valve lift be an awsome .560"
                    Anyone have any insight???

While the engine is apart for a while, I am gonna do all the fluff stuff. I will get a case of beer and a dremel and start polishing/port matching my intakes, heads, throttle, etc... I will also take this time to do silly stuff like paint the intake and valve covers pretty colors.

As far as engine management, I will get Magnus's software as soon as it is available.

.560 lift with heads and a block decked that far might not be a good idea, what kind of duration does your cam have?

I'd get a different cam, and not use the SLP rockers.

L32 rods work fine. Piston machining is not required. I think I will get those.

Those SLP rockers are not gioing in immediatley. I might do that in a few months. I am not going to deck the block either. Too much money for another 0.1 compression ratio increase.
