Chris where were the jack stands?
Tranny/engine jack?

You're lucky dude. I know people who died being crushed under a car. Its bad enough to be in a hobby that it can happen - when you actually know someone or see it happen its awakens you to the fact that nothing should compromise safety.

I let it slip once, trying to remove the rear axle off a truck. The truck came down on my buddy and I. We re-jacked the truck in the same manner, tried again and it happened a second time. My some miracle we were both spared. Never again.

Getting cut up is okay, that's part of the job, and why I wear mechanics gloves when I can now. But having something drop or fall on you is a safety breech. Should never happen.

I am genuinely glad you are otherwise okay.

there are jack stands under the car... you cant see them because of the way all the pictures were taken. we are smarter then that. you cant pull a motor and a tranny out when you are using "tranny/engine jacks" when youre pulling it out by a cherry picker. kris, nor anyone there, was in ANY danger of the car falling on them... i dont see why you are so worried about it and making assumptions on stuff you cant see.

the engine and tranny were attached to the cherry picker and were coming out of the car and therefore at an angle and kris was under the car guiding it out and accidentally place his hand under the tranny pan and it slipped forward and pinned his hand between that and the k-member... so maybe you, the omniscent car person, can tell us how a tranny/engine jack or jack stands would prevent this from happening, because it is unclear to me.

sure kris hand should not have been there, but accidents happen and we all learn from them. we were NOT AT ALL unsafe. but i truely appreciate the lecture dad.

The car doesn't have to fall on someone to kill them, the engine and tranny can do that just fine. 450+ pounds against your skull...your skull loses.

When was it decided that I know everything about cars? Why didn't anyone tell me?

When did relating past experiances become lectures?

A transmission jack could have been used to guide the tailshaft instead of it moving across the floor or otherwise unsupported.

In any case, it is not so much what happened in this particular case as it is about having the proper tools. In general when you are pulling a motor I really don't see the need for anyone to be underneath the vehicle? Shouldn't be anything that a tool such as a engine leveler couldn't have worked to correct.

Um Kris I don't think you were getting the gist of what I was saying...

here is part of an AIM convo with HAWGS...

Bliggida: the lack of emotion and tone certainly can make post construed far out of context.
Bliggida:In fact, I would like Kris to know that I am probably one of the few that is honestly grateful and more concerned he wasn't hurt worse. and that I truly sympathize with the injury he recieved.
Bliggida:maybe I'll see him on later.
Bliggida:I understand accidents happen, and that usually has nothing to do with how safe a person is.
Bliggida:I of all people!
Bliggida:You know how many times I have been cut up and spent long nights in the ER's from working?
Bliggida:But I have possibly seen something that other's around here have not. And that is auto mechanic accidents cause death. I've seen it! And its not worth the risk when it can be avoided, that's all.
Bliggida:I have no doubt or question You or Kris were very safe.
Bliggida:But at the same time, (and not that its my intention to) what is it going to hurt if I act as Mr. Mom in a post. If anything I would hope you guys see that I only say something because I care, truly care whether I have met you personally or not.
Bliggida:about your well being and safety

how was that a conversation hawgs never replied back.

the car was on jacks the engin was being held up with a cherry picker (was set to hold over 1000 lbs) how is the engin gonna fall on him and kill him? he had his hand in the wrong spot then when the engin and trans moved cause it was caught on something it got his finger he wasnt trying to lift the trans

the hand that was hurt wasnt his dominate hand if your trying to hold something heavy your gonna use your domminate hand

accidents happen about the only was to of prevented this was to of had his hand in a diffrent place who could of guessed where his hand was was the wrong spot

ohh and i do belive he asked for you to stay out of his threads can you not read or are you just being an ***

not cool

you think he wanted this **** to happen?
**** happends you live and learn but he sure as hell dosnt need a ****ing lecture from you

Enough bickering here.. we have a man down... we should bow our heads in a moment of silence.

At least it wasn't his dominant hand.. so the ladies will never know the difference. ;)

Kris is going to have the heads resurfaced and maybe new valve seals isntalled, then we can throw it back together.

I just noticed this thread. Slacker, I didn't know you blew your motor! :( Was it because of the nitrous? I know the harder you push your motor, it increases the chances of it blowing. That scares me, because we both have the same year and 3 years is just too quick. I still have 2 years left to pay on mine.

Wll im not sure what messed up my motor but when your spark plugs look like this after only 150 miles on them.

http://www.mymilkexpired.com/tempsto...01%20dirty.jpg

and you burn about 1 1/2 quarts of oil a day and smoke alot and it feels like you drive a Cavalier and you reall drive a heads/cam camaro with a 3800 stall and 3.73's there is a problem.

I know a nitrous mishap can cause a plug to go bad, but dayum! Was that the reason you was burning so much oil?
