  • switchable iat mod?

well, i have this thing for switches... so think there'd b a way to set up the iat mod so that u could turn it on or off from the drivers seat with out ever having to pop the hood and remove the resistor? to do this, u'd also have to come up with some way for it to run just stock when the switch is off. thats what i can't figure out. i kno its prob. more trouble then its worth, but i like switches! they're so cool! so if n e one has n e ideas (besides just give up), let me know.

I'm pretty sure the PCM would have to reset anyway to have an immediate effect on the IAT.

I know I drove for a couple days after unplugging my IAT sensor before the SES light even came on for it.

calvo- so ur thinkin goin along the lines of an on/off/on switch. i bet i could get that to work. as for xjarayax,i dunno if the pcm would have to be reset or not. by no means am i an expert on this stuff, but it seems to me that the resistor just puts out a false sensor reading. the same thing would happen if the temperature outside dropped to 57 degrees (or whatever the resistor u had in would set it at). now mayb i'm just really confused, but if the way i think it works is the way it works, then it doesn't seem like it'd b too bad of a mod considering it'd cost u less that $5 to do it all. unless i get someone to prove me wrong on this, i'll give ur plan a shot calvo. thanks

You can switch it on and off but there isn't a good reason to do this. The IAT mod is worthless unless you need it to correct 160F Thermostat issues in 2001+ cars.

A variable resistor would work in line with the IAT. It looks like a dial and you turn it left or right to increase or decrease resistance. I used them in my electrical engineering class. I don't know how you would switch it back to stock though, I'd have to think about it. Electronics is not my strong point.

I have played around with various resistors and yes, I have found them to advance timing, but at the most about 3 degrees.

              eh....it's really easy.

Run a switch. 2 position. 1 pole is connected to the resistor, the other pole is connected straight to the sensor.

The center pole is to the PCM.
