  • SLP 1.8 Roller Rockers Install

I'll be attempting the install myself this weekend. Anything I need to prepare for? Seems pretty cut and dry. I've heard the back bolt on the cover can be a beyotch, any tricks? If this doesn't belong here, feel free to move it. Thanks in advance.

Yes, the back bolt on the pass. valve cover can be a pain, just take a pipe and a hammer and bend that hoist bracket out of the way and you can get a socket on it. I may have used a swivel socket or a swivel joint in the extension. If you ever pull the heads take that hoist bracket off, it just gets in the way. Coil packs are pretty easy, if memory serves me correctly it's a 7/32 1/4" drive deep socket to get the coil pack bolts out.

Due to the lack of detailed instructions, and me basically being a first timer on something like this, would you recommend that I have these professionally installed?

last thing you need is a rocker arm to walk off because of not being properly torqued...take it somewhere

Torque isn't an issue, as I have a ft/lb, and an in/lb wrench and all the corresponding specs.

Thanks for the site AllTheGoodNames..... I'll be referring to it frequently. I don't suppose you could add a couple of arrows labeling some of the parts, could you?

I just picked up a Haynes manual, and boy is that vague. But at least it's consistent with all of the instructions that I've read so far. Seems like a simple "Out with the old, in with the new."

dewey.. its not that bad.. i have never done "internal" work before i did my rocker arms either.. its realy not a huge deal.. as long as you have a nice asortment of wrenches and extensions.. jsut make sure you are able to get both covers off before you start swapping arms..

it will take you a few hours 4-5 with one person.. maybe 3-4 with 2 people..
