• building twin turbo car should i or not

i have plans to build my twin turbo car but i just got my hopes thrown in the garbage. i just went with my neighbor to his friends house and his friend knows alot for almost every car and he told me this:
1 my suspension needs to be rebuilt and possibly converted to a corvett suspension
2 my transmission suck at 400 hp
3 my t-tops are going to break any way at 400+
4 my timing chain is old school that i should convert it to belt.
5 my supension sucks!!!

should i still do my project or listen to this guy
and not do twin turbo. ( i want to do twin turbo bad because its rare to have a twin turbo setup in our cars!!!)
Is it a V8? NO! It's a v6 foo

Mi Caro...

You do need to build up your suspension but the F-body suspension can be built up better for drag racing than the corvette suspension. The transmission will need to be built up. I dont know where he got the deal about the T-tops breaking, no way. There is not a belt drive system for the 3.8. They do make a double roller timing chain though. Do your project. He doesnt know as much as he thinks.

1. Yes, it sucks for anything more than 200hp/225tq. You wouldn't want a tire burner would ya? You would want to upgrade the suspension even on an LS1 or LT1 if it were putting down 400+ hp. There aren't too many stock v8 rearends that can even handle 400+ hp/tq for a prolonged period of time.
2. Yes, our transmissions weren't meant to last very long on 400+ hp/tq. But if you're putting all that money into the engine you better find a way to get the power to the ground efficently or else it's just a show piece.
3. I wouldn't think so. The car may twist and flex but it shouldn't break the t-tops. If I'm not mistaken, there are quite a few t-topped f-bodies rolling around with 400+ hp.
4. If you're building a race car then do it right. Intense Racing sells a nice timing chain, although they have been under some pressure lately.
5. Not for what it was intended for.

If you want to build a race car then do it right. Once you start cutting corners you will regret it later on.

Let me put it this way. In a high powered engine, Would you rather have a rubber belt controlling your engine or steel chain.

I have herd that the belts keep crank vibrations out of the valve train and they take less torque to turn over compaired a regular chain.
But then you can let a chain go for over 150,000 miles they just kind of ware out, a belt will let go about 100,000 and you engine will be junk.
