no, you need to either send your VCM out to have the code deleted, or buy a copy of HPTuners and do it yourself. starting from 2000, the 01's and newer have somthing else also, but the 2000 has a code thing that comes up, is this going to change the way the engine operates if that code comes up? or just an anoying code2000 3.8 Camaro M5<br /><br /> <a href=\"http://www.cardomain.com/ride/832316\" target=\"_blank\">http://www.cardomain.com/ride/832316</a>

What will happen is it will cause your temp gauge to not work and the VCM will turn the fans on all the time so it is a concern.2002 Pewter V6 Camaro M5 <br /><br />Quickest stock-motor N/A V6 4th Gen F-body.<br />2nd Quickest N/A V6 4th Gen F-body overall.<br />mods: Gear, weight reduction, tuning <br /><br />Fear the Gear. 13.585 @ 100.05 1.827 60\'<br /><br /><br /><a href=\"http://www.NJFBOA.org\" target=\"_blank\">www.NJFBOA.org</a>

a. get a 180 stat, $10 will set no codes
b. send your vcm out to be tuned, $few hundred
c. get hptuners and delete the code, $650
depends on how important a 160* stat is to you.2002 Pewter V6 Camaro M5 <br /><br />Quickest stock-motor N/A V6 4th Gen F-body.<br />2nd Quickest N/A V6 4th Gen F-body overall.<br />mods: Gear, weight reduction, tuning <br /><br />Fear the Gear. 13.585 @ 100.05 1.827 60\'<br /><br /><br /><a href=\"http://www.NJFBOA.org\" target=\"_blank\">www.NJFBOA.org</a>

Unless you're throwing out some pretty bad@$$ power and you need all the heat reduction you can get, there's not enough signifficant difference between 160 and 180 to throw $620 at. For one, in traffic either one will hit 210 in stop in go. On the highway it will be at 160 but it's not ganna make a remarkable difference from 180... Also 160 has a tendency of burning more fuel (car runs hella rich thinking it's not warmed up yet...) without tuning.1997 Camaro RS W/T-Tops<br />All Stock / 200 HP

""Also 160 has a tendency of burning more fuel (car runs hella rich thinking it's not warmed up yet...) without tuning.""
yep. having a computer that canstantly tunes the engine is far different than a small block chevy with an edelbrock 4bbl.
the 180 degree thermastat is even felt by some to yield less gas mileage as a daily driver. I went with the 180, though, in my car.

I've had a 160 thermy in my 2000 for several years now with no problems nor SES light. I'll just consider myself lucky. :D

Ive run a 160 in both my 2000 Firebird and 2002 Camaro, and I have yielded the same or better fuel economy in both cars than with the stock 195. Ive also ran 180s and they didn't change fuel economy either. I prefer my heads to run cool, and I do get better timeslips with the 160 stat and when the car is cooler.2002 5-spd NBM Camaro

isn't the stock thermo in the 99+ a 180 anyways? That is what it says in the engine tech.

No, they are all 195.
