Be prepared to spend a lot of time making and sticking to a system to remember where everything goes. Taking the motor/tranny at once out the bottom is definitely the way to go. If you have any specific questions let me know. Pictures of my swap are on my cardomain site on page 2. Link in sig.

I've taken my engine out w/a hoist and I've read on other 4th gen cars doing from top also, just remove the radiator for clearance, pull forward & tilt engine when needed. Hoist also saves soooo much room in garage too.

I'd like to thank Mr Coffee for that email attachment - There's no way I'm going to pay someone to do this ... I'm almost embarrassed that I entertained the idea for as long as I did. Motor will be coming out the top … for a lot of stupid reasons (like I’m too lazy to

I have to wait until the funds come together before I get into negotiations with the salvage yard. Then the question becomes – try to take the car to North Western VA for install at Dad’s garage, or take motor to car in Northern Virginia for install in my garage.

Oh, and if this new motor is going in, you bet I’m dressing it up a bit before everything’s bolted down. (Next – complete that paintjob I want!) ;)

I needed less room going out through the bottom.

Because I didn't have to roll the hoist forward with an engine hanging off of it. Just had to slide the engine out sideways. (I didn't have any room in front of the car, but I did have an empty bay beside me...) The back of the car was all the way against the garage door, and the engine hoist was all the way against the forward wall of the garage.
