• Need some help on 98 V6 Camaro.

I took on a job for a guy to change his plugs and wires and brakes. Before bringing it in it was running like crap and missing. I changed the plugs and wires..still runs like crap. At first I thought I hooked the wires wrong. I did, i though 1-3-5 were on the passenger side. I swapped the fuel filter from a 2000 LS1 SS, thinking that may be the problem. Also switched the wires to the proper locations. However, the coil packs on this 98 are switched compared to the ones in the pic on someones site : http://www.cardomain.com/member_page...29_57_full.jpg

the front and middle one are switched on this 98.

My LS1 scanmaster pics up P0171 (left bank lean), P0174(right bank lean), P0303 (cylinder 3 misfire)

The car wont start now. What could be the problem? what is the correct coil pack orientation for 98 v6s?

Thank you for your help.

Why are you scanning a V6 with a LS1 tool?

That is part of the problem, I think, unless it can scan a 3800.

Starting from the front of the car the coil packs go like this...

6 and 3, 2 and 5, 4 and 1.
<---------front of car.

2, 4 and 6 are on the passenger side, 1,3, and 5 are on the drivers side.

The packs themselves don't matter if they are switched around, cause those numbers on the coils are just for reference purposes. So long as the wires are connected to the right plug in the order that I have shown you, from front to back, then you know you at least have the firing order right.

Last but not least, I would quit getting parts from an LS1 for replacement unless you know for a fact that they are the same part, or you are looking to upgrade.

The scanners work the same, even an LS1 predator tuner that is married to an LS1 VIN# can be used to sca our cars. The fuel filter is the same, but for $5 when replacing it, I'd just buy a new one instead of using another guy's

ok look at the vavle covers on the motor, see how the driver side one sits ahead of the pass side cover? that is your #1 cylender.

driver front//// pass front
1.................2
3.................4
5.................6

coil packs go
1 FRONT
4

5
2

3
6 back (you know the PITA ONE lol)

Instead of just replacing random components, have you checked anything for functionality yet? Have you grounded a wire near the block and cranked to see if it sparks? Mechanical fuel pressure gauge on schrader valve to check fuel pressure? There is more. Is this a friend of yours? Or a guy who is just paying to have his car fixed?
