  • Stroking And Head Jobs !

What kind of HP and Torque gain would you get by stroking the 3.8 and shaving the heads? I can guess a ballpark number and it would probibly take for ever searching for the info. So does anyone have any 1st hand knowledge on this subject. Im thinking about 40 hp and maybe the same in torque. Ill tell you one thing tho if your looking for a cheap worthy mod get your heads done. You can get your heads completely done up, im talking valves,port/polish,shaved the whole 9 yards for about $125 a head ! And let me tell you the minor HP and torque gain and the peace of mind knowing you have shiny new heads is well worth it. Can i get an A MEN for HEAD JOBS ?!!!

the stroking will get you prolly 40 tq, maybe 30 hp by itself. The heads will get you 20-30 hp when you do the stroker, maybe 10-20 tq. doing a cam at the same time will give you anoter 20-30 hp, and maybe 10-20 tq. This is all assuming that you have tuning, free-flowing intake/exhaust, and some ignition mods to light off the mix. These numbers are all assumptions because there's way too many variables to be sure of all the numbers. So, let's say you have all the little things taken care of and it's tuned to perfection. heads/cam/stroker you could see a possible 90 hp and 80 tq. heads and stroker you'd see a possible max of 60 hp and 60 tq. These aren't rwhp numbers and are with streetable porting and cam selection.

Hmmm nice. This gives me incentive to look into this. I would much rather get 90 Hp/Tq N/A than i would from a supercharger. My friend just paid $150 a head to do his 318 small block at a shop here in central florida.

$150 a head? Is that stroking and shaving or whatever? Stroking the engine is one thing I never researched so Im kinda lost on wtf it is exactly.

I had been thinking about this recently too. And if Arctic Wolf is somewhat accurate with those numbers, I can't see where its worth the cost.
I saw on this board that there is a stroker kit available @ 2000.00 + installation, and if you went with Abbott's setup for heads, cam and intake @ 3000.00. That seems to be a lot of money for 90 HP and 80 TQ. Might as well go with a power adder for less money.

I wanted to be conservative with my numbers. You could put out more power than what i said, but I don't like misleading people. You can look at intense racing if you wanna see what you could do w/ stroker/heads/cam. They ran 12's easily and put out about 350 hp I think in a grand prix GT.

also with some good tuning with the heads/cam and stroker, you will get some even better gains. Then again, with all that stuff you most likely will be tuning it anyways.

That $3000 price for our setup is inaccurate. For our stage 3 heads, ported upper/lower intakes, a cam, pushrods, and gaskets is $2392.80. carmelcarwholesales spent about $3000 counting us porting two intakes for him and buying the TSP Rumbler exhaust system.
