Everyone says either a custom tune or HP or DHP Tuners (laptop tuners) which are really expensive and you need to know alot about tuning.Spend your money elsewhere for now...

You can also do mail order tuning through Texas Speed. They're pretty good at it from what I've seen.

Chips like that don't really do much of anything except empty your wallet.

Your best options is PCM tuning either by purchasing HP Tuners software (comes with necessary cable), or do a mail order tune through Texas Speed or Westers Garage.

                      http://www.texas-speed.com/
                      http://westers_garage.eidnet.org/Index2.htm

Not sure how Texas Speed does it, but Westers sends you a tuned PCM and then you send yours back to them. Wester's also does free updates for you. (Again not sure if texas speed does that too)

All the above options are somewhat pricey but defintely the best way to go.

I am quite please with my Wester's tune. (Except for the fact he forget to recal by speedo for my 3.42 gears so my speedo is still 10% off...he will fix that for free but I didn't want to mess with switching it out again). It shifts like it has a shift kit in it, and the "hand off" to the next gear during shifting is very nice.

If you get a new PCM you do have to get a Crank Position Relearn Procedure done so factor in another $40 or so for that. Most diagnostic scanners can accomplish this.

Also, that chip you linked to is for an LS1 not a V6.
SLP CAI, K&N, Whisper Lid, 180* thermo, manual fan switch, 3.42 gears, Auburn Pro LSD, Wester\'s PCM Tuning, TSP Rumbler, High Flow Cat. Best Time: 9.909@71.58 (1/8 mile)

Really, that westers place sends you the PCM then you send yours back? That's awesome because you will have no down time for your car. It's $400 though, TSP is cheaper but I'm don't think they do it that way. Someone who has done TSP mail order tune should speak up.

I hope someone does. I am communicating with Texas Speed about my 99. I have the sc, new gears going in and headers, if I ever find them. I bought a spare PCM off e-bay for 29 dollars, so I can just send it out and still drive. It's good, so a pretty good deal.
