• Ghost SES light

I'm throwing an ses light, but when I scan it w/ the shops scan tool, it shows no problem codes at all. i reset it, and it'll come on 10 miles later. any ideas? btw, my pcm is brand new and was tuned w/ the HP Tuners suite.

this might sound stupid ,but check your Gas Cap, if it is cracked on not fully tightned it can cause the EVAP system to launch a SES light , due to fuel vapours to escape. make sure its on relativltt tight, if your still not getting codes check the fuel lines to the evap system lines for a Petrol (gas ) smell .in case there is a leak. this was happing on my 3800 series 2 and the SES light would go on and off on occusion ,never launching a hard code to the OBD 2 PCM.

The gas cap is tight. I got it cleared again, still came back. Would the SES light come on if the car was low on oil?

Yes it would. I have the same problem it came on and off at certain times. When i scanned it didnt through any codes. What other mods have you done to your car that might narrow it down abit.

Autotap should be able to bring up a report with the history of the DTC's in your PCM. With a little luck, it'll be stored there and you'll see what it is. All the common ones should have been turned off for you already

The shop I went to had a really nice Motis scanner and they had to go to freeze frame to get the code. Mine was setting the P1870 code, yours as well could be sitting an intermittant tranny code. You might have to break down and pay a big shop 50 dollars to get it scanned. :(

yes the M.O.D.I.S is nice. we have one. Can do a lot more then the old MT2500.. and yeah sometimes you just need to bie the bulllit and pay to get the codes read. if they select history codes it will show up

SES will not come on if you are low on oil... I dont have a 3.8L but I have experience in several other GM cars and never is this the case.
