  • Fuel system mod

I have been told by numerous hor rodders that GM has always held abck on the wiring for the electric fuel pumps. I found a kit that Holley makes that basically includes a 30 or 40amp relay and wiring. You wire the relay up front, and run a thicker betetr wire off that relay abck to power your fuel pump. This gives it a much better voltage source, and therefore it can supply more fuel easily.

My question: Has anybody done this on their own? I have searched and found nothing here, but did find some that had done it at ls1.com a while back. I cannot think of anything but positive things this could do for our cars. When I do it later today, what wire do I run into to power the fuel pump with the new/improved source? Where is the easiest spot, what's involved in getting to this wire that leads to the pump? opinions welcome on this mod.

Yea, i know of people who have done this.. and it helps voltage if you NEED it..

However 99.9% of the V6 guys won't need to do this. Droppign in a walbro alone should be enough to support the power.

If you start pushing 500rwhp+, then I'd worry about the voltage.

I've rewired the entire car almost, had the tank down more than 5 times, cut and spliced so much.. but I still use the stock voltage wires for the pump. (this is with the LS1 mind you).. Goign for 11.2@118 NA and I am not worried about voltage.

So on my stock pump, stock wires, stock tuning...and pushing this V6 over 300HP, it would be a worthwhile investment? Can you think of any downsides? For $10 in parts, if it does anything but hurt me, I am for it.

It would not be worthwhile on a stock pump that's for sure, and not even for 300hp either.

Downside is risk of electrical failure/problems..

I'd put in a walbro first for sure.. WAY before I'd run new wires to the pump.

PS. You still have to drop the tank and feed a bigger gauge wire ALL the way to the pump if you want to do it the right way.

I hear ya. I have been thinking about a Walbro a while now. Think 190 is sufficient or should I go 255?
