My shop here in VA wants to pull it ... I'm ready to pull it ... there's a 5K motor for $750 (I think I can get it for $500) waiting to go in it... and that would also fix my belt squeal (which is caused by mounting the 'charger on an aftermarket off set timing cover).

But if it was gonna cost me $800 to have the oil pump replaced by that shop, how much is a motor rebuild/swap gonna cost??! ... this is why I do my own work.

Heck - sounds a heck of a lot easier than tearing the thing down!

Sorry to hear that pathogen, if you decide to rebuild at least you could get forged internals and other charger friendly mods done at the same time. And even possibly a WARRANTY.... ooohhh

word just freaking word...... lol

look at it this way if theres nothing wrong with the rings/cam bearings you could take out the crank get it polished put new bearings in it fix whats wrong and throw it back it, just you'll be WAY OVER 750 the why not do the rings if you not that far you need to bore it..... ect ect ect

750 For other motor you could swap them out in a day and be back on the road, then figure out what was wrong with the other motor, or just "finsh it off" first lol

it would seroulsy take longer to swap the cam then the hole motor

i've seen sbc's with very similer problems, the source being one of the roller lifters rotating...

so before you pull the motor i'd get the lower intake off and see if the lifter on the bent pushrod hasn't turned sidways

Id go for the 5k motor, cheap, new and most of the time they come w/ a small warranty in case you screw something up, $800 for a oil pump replacement, id rather set my money on fire. A swap out is easy especially if you have bums who will work for food.

Game plan:

1). Fix oil leak on Virus (So I can free up my garage again)
2). Tear down a lot of Path's motor ... for fun and to see if we can find a problem.
3a). If obvious problem is found and is fixable, fix, ressemble and test.
3b). If no obvious problem is found, pull what's left of motor, put in 5K motor .. drive happy NA for a bit.
4). Install blower.

There's another 98 3.8 M5 at the HideOut having this same problem - a shop just looked at his car and thinks there's a problem at the bottom of the #2 piston.

Motor's coming apart and coming out! - WHOOT!

Hey guys - as much as I'd love to waste this thing ... seeing how my ProCharger is not self contained, that would be a pretty big risk. If I fry the motor, it'd have to be NA.

Take it apart... for the hell of it.

Get that 5,000 mile engine.
Toss it in there.

You can replace the engine and drive around.....

Or... you can spend time taking apart the other engine.... figure out what is wrong... replace component.....put it back together.... and eventuallly get back to driving it.

<--- junkyard engine!!!!!
works for me!

IF, you get the 5,000 mile engine pop the heads n intake off and have them ported.

Trust me!

Get it ready for SLP day up by me.

I wanna drive that car into the 12's!!!
