3500 dollars to dump into engine

what would the best setup be for a N\A motor for 3500?? it is a daily driver but im not really worried about gas, mileage an such. ive got decent lowend power from my 3.42s and posi. I am looking into heads cam and intake, possibly the intense stage 2 package. any suggestions would be great, thanx guys!

I tried to build a high compression NA super motor. Honestly, it hasn't impressed me much at all. I think the 3800 is weak NA.

If I were you, I would buy SHanes turbo kit. It is for sale for 3300, and it comes with everything. I would get it if I had that kind of dough.

If you do want a brute NA motor though, now is the time to do it. There are ported heads, intakes, etc, all for sale in the FS section right now. Jump on that and get a deal. Get a really fat cam to back it all up, like a GT2 or something.

the 3800 is not weak NA by any means.....i believe it is very possible to make 300 hp at the wheels with more compression and a bigger cam than what i have....my motor is an all stock bottom end with a true 9.5 to 1 compression and a cam that would probably make more power with some changes...just because your "super motor" didnt impress you doesnt mean the 3800 is weak NA...

It lends itself to boosted operations so willingly. All the turbo guys mop up the floor with the NA guys.

LOL, that's the nature of the beast. On any motor, a turbo car is going to be faster than a mildly modded (average around here is mild it would seem) NA car.

Look at the LS1 market...sure we can go low 10's and soon 9's with stock displacement, just heads/cam packages making big power. BUT, then the turbo/nitrous/and blower guys go 8's.

i was thinkin of doin the fabricated turbo kit for 3000 with a turbo cam but my buddy said that i should never put a turbo on a daily driver, it would fry the engine up to soon.....should i jump on the turbo pushing 7psi? cause i wouldnt be able to afford any kinda heads or intake. although some places can do a head job for 400 ive heard??

YOu don't really need ported heads with a boosted application. You are forcing the air into the cylinders, who cares if it had a rough ride to get there?

The motor cares if it has a rough ride to get in there. On an NA application, good heads can make around a 30rwhp difference. On a boosted motor, with bigger valves in the heads, I could see closer to 40rwhp from heads. That's cheaper power than the turbo kits are right now too!

so what would u guys suggest....should i buy new heads from one of our vendors or should i get them done at a machine shop?? it seems like the shop can get it done for half the price

if i got a shop to do it what would i have done to the heads?

The big thing is this: a local shop can do them cheaper because they aren't a middle man, and don't have the mark-up. HOWEVER, they may or may not know about and have the experience needed to make any power on these heads. That's the price of aftermarket parts, and in most cases well worth it, to know you are going to get the biggest bang for your buck possible.

onequickv6.....i see in ur signiture that u do tuning. if i do a head cam and intake mod, what kinda tuning would i need and how much would it be?

that has to be THE stupidist statement i have ever heard. the bigger and smoother the ports are on your heads the more easily more air can flow into them equalling more power and more boost. especially with a power adder, better flowing heads will allow you to see huge gains

Bob, thier cylinder head expert, said that to me when I brought my heads in to get them worked on.

He said port work isn't nearly as important on a boosted motor as it is on an NA motor. SInce our cyl. heads flow like 200 stock, there was no need for me to get them hogged out since I am working on a turbo setup. I trust the guy considering he builds 6 second pro stock motors for a living.

At any rate, if Furycharger decides to get shane's turbo kit, I recomend that he not worry about getting head work done. Hell, Shane ran 12.5 with stock heads.

If he does get into an NA app, he will need extensive head work.
