• 3.4 cam question. cam sensor

Hy guys, this is a wierd problem that I have been dealing/learning with. Ok, I have a 95 3.4, and the head gaskets blew. So when I was replacing them, I found a rounded over cam lobe. So I have a brand new GMPP cam for 60* V6 motors, and it does not have the cam sensor on the front of the cam like my old one does. I searched and found some people with this problem, and not really too much of an answer. I have installed the cam, but the car is still not put back together. I dont have the time, to order a right cam, or get one ground, and I am not getting a stock replacement cam from autozone for $100. But anyways, I have learned people saying this cam will work, but it will batch fire, instead of sequesntial fire. So basically run as if it were a TBI or a carb instead of fuel injected vehicle. it will run rich, and not get good gas mileage. What I want to know, is how can I fix this? Do I have to have some custom programming done, or switch to a 2.8 or 3.1 PCM or what? Thanks in advance for replies. Just I am unsure of this problem. later, ;)

batch fire, thats how the mpfi 2.8,3.1 ran in 3rd gens, and above 3k rpm thats how the 3.4 runs

I can't if it will run or not ( its should, but would prolly thow a code) but if it does run, low rpm fuel efficency would suffer slightly

btw what cam do you have(specs?)

It is a GMPP cam. Its actually not that great of a cam. I think 204/216 and 42X/43X valve lift w/1.5. I just had this cam around, and obviously need one. Thanks for the reply.

ok, I know what cam you have, but it puzzuls me that it dosn't have the cam senser, as is mainly intended for gen 2 (87-94 fwd 2.8- 3.1) motors

well actually it said on their site 1981-1994 2.8L/3.1L 60* V6 motors. So obviously the 3.4 is the same as hose, but mine is a 95. Maybe, they said through 94, because in 95' they put in a cam sensor. I dont know. If you have anymore advice please feel free to add. I am listening to everyone right now, to see what the problem is, etc. Thanks,

they've had cam sensors sence '85 the (the mpfi motors)
and they've had 3x crankshaft sensors sence '87(gen 2 motors with dis)

and the 93-95 3.4 (and the 93 up 3.1 & 3.4 gen 3 motors) have a 24x crank sensor as well ~ witch ether helps control the sfi or complitly controls the sfi (???)

Well i have this cam(well the crane version) the 2030 powermax with my new motor. My car runs fine and gets a little less milage. It throws a cam sensor code all the time a "soft" at that. Which means no service engine soon light, but if you hook a scanner up the code will appear.
Yea the car having 2 crank sensor kinda helps. If you run the car lets say pull the cam sensor on a stock motor the car wont run. But right now the sensor really doesnt sense anything sense there is no tab on the aftermarket cam. But it runs.. Strange aint it?
But yea car will run rich. In my new motor i run 19 LBS 5.0 mustang injectors and with the batch fire is causing my car to run too rich.

Thanks for replying 94Teal. I was wanting someone with the same experience to apply to reassure me that this wont **** up badly. Do you mind explaining what you are doing with your injectors. Is 19lb higher or lower than our stock injectors. Thanks again, ;)

Cool, so what did the higher flow injectors help with on your car? Just trying to completly figure this out, and plan for the future. ;) Thanks,
