I got rust on the filler tube and I wanna replace it. Got one off ebay for 200 bucks brand spankin new. Do I have to totally remove the rear axle or can I get away with just detaching it from the body and letting it hang?

You will have to jack up the car and put it on jack stands, put the jack under the rear end, disconnect the shocks from the rear end, remove the upper and lower panhard bars, lower the rear end down away from the car with the jack, remove the heat shields surrounding the tank, remove the straps holding the tank to the car, and remove the tank. While you are at it you should replace your pump as well. Make sure you mark down where any fuel lines go before you remove them as well. then do the reverse to put it back in. Dont have too much gas in the tank because it will weigh a ton if it does (about an 1/8th-1/4 tank is easy to deal with). Do they have aftermarket pumps and does it really matter? Is the stock replacement pump fine? When you jack up the car they will no longer be under tension, once you remove the shocks they will just kinda fall out. Make sure to put the rubber part back on top when you put them back in. The walbro 255 is the aftermarket one that most people replace the stock pump with and will allow you to mod the F out of the car without needing another upgrade later.
Also i forgot, when you are actually removing the tank from the car its a bit of a pain, the fill neck is hard to get out. to make it easier to see what you are doing open your fule door and remove the plastic around the fill neck and then also remove the the plasic shroud in the wheel well. This will allow you to see everything that is going on and make the job a bit easier but it is still a pita.
