  • Cryo treating costs??

I was wondering how much it would cost to cryo treat a crank. I know there are a few people on here that may have built and engine with a frozen part or two, just curious of the costs?? Also, where is a good place to have it done?

Deep Cryogenic Tempering creates a significant increase in abrasive wear resistance and durability. The increases in tensile strength, toughness and stability may couple with the release of internal residual stresses. The end results are longer engine life, higher horsepower and less breakage.

The one-time, irreversible treatment improves the entire structure, not just the surface, giving your engine stability only found previously in seasoned engines. Decrease the movement and increase your engine's performance and life

      Deep frozen engine parts!

I was recommended a company that I believe was called Diversified Cyrogenics, but I do a search and I get nothing. Anyone have any ideas?

VERY good company. they also freeze rotors. www.frozenrotors.com

Diversified Cryogenics is a great company, ive dealt with them before. The prices are on their site. For them to do a crank, its $125. Its also only $8.35 each for your connecting rods, and they will do an entire engine (block, rods, crank, heads, pistons, rockers, pushrods, EVERYTHING) for $625.00

Id go with the crank and rods. Should be under $200 to get it done, and VERY worthwile.

WOW thats not that bad at all I'll be getting my crank, rods, and block done.

I thought getting things cryoed was a bit more expensive.

              Thanks!

hmmm this makes my contemplate the 4.1 stroker kit. about how much boost would the crank be able to hold after this treatment?

well, this is right from their site:

"We tested two stock 440 snowmobile engines. We left one alone; the other we treated with our Deep Cryogenic Processing. Next, using a dynamometer, we performed detonation tests on both engines by “leaning” the fuel-to-air ratio until they stopped running. The non-treated engine detonated pretty easily (the pistons grew too hot, causing them to grow and distort, then to seize up). The cryo-treated engine was another story.

We tried to detonate the cryo-treated engine three times, Each time, the engine resisted. Sure, it stalled due to lack of fuel, but there was absolutely no damage to the engine. Cryo-treating enabled the piston to stay round, instead of expanding and distorting."

I know cryo treating is a great process, for EVERYTHING in the engine, but i dont think you can go absolutely balls-to-the-wall with it. For example, someone on here ran 14psi on stock internals with race gas if im correct. I would say maybe you could run 17-18 safely with cryo treating? Dont mark my words on that, i dont know enough to be giving advice on this stuff, but i know it does work, and its pretty sick stuff.

My plan is in the 20-30 psi range. Hopefully it will work. This is why freezing is a must in my situation.

For $625, that is a VERY reasonable deal. I think that anyone who is planning on any insane project like mine should have AT LEAST the crank and rods done.

yea thats the thing, spend the money and get it all done. im suprised viper didnt do this. small things like bearings and gears in the engine, valve springs, etc. (you know, the little $hit that goes wrong that ruins your whole engine when it does F up) are MUCH stronger with cryo treating.

id do it, if i had a serious project.
