  • IAT Resistors any info?

Okay we all know about the resistor tricks for our IAT sensors. My IAT sensor is shot and I have to wait a week for it to come in, and I am having horrible gas millage right now somewhere around 18mpg on 70mph freeways! This is pretty bad considering... So I have been highly considering picking up a resistor from raidoshack or something to just plug it for now maybe balance it back out a bit, considering my engine is DIEING when its colder than about 20degrees, until its warm.

I also know that alot of people are interested in doing this very controversial modification. Basically for daily driven street vehicles, its stupid! The power gain is not worth it, and the variance day to day is too much to really be worth anything.

Now if you drag race on days that it averages 80degrees outside, now that would make it worth it for that DAY! A little timing advance and a little rich running wont hurt, but there are extremes. People say a colder running engine gives better performance, so why don't we keep them at 100 degrees flat? Exactly.

Well basically I was wondering if anyone knows anything about the different resistor ratings and the approximate air temp sends.

    As in- 10k ohm = 50 degrees?
    15k ohm = 40 degrees?

Thanks for any help in this topic!

4.7K ohms would make it think its 57*.

I just picked up a pack of 10k resistors and plugged one in, its about 30-35 degrees outside or so, and my car runs fairly smooth, and starts nicely. I'm not sure what temperature that resister associates with but. I can feel more low end power, and I just doubled my gas millage! lol, goes to show what an out IAT sensor can do to your performance.... :-/

Note than any IAT below 104° will result in absolutely no change in spark advance. Only when it reaches 104° and up will it begin to pull some timing. Even then it's no more than 3°. The sensor here should not effect highway mileage while the engine is warm.
