  • Replacment 3.4 to be used in a Road Race S 10

    New to this site.
    I have been racing a 1989 S 10 with a 2.5 L 4.
This motor makes about 135 hp to the rear wheels.
5 speed trans.165 HP at the flywheel at 5100 RPM.
    Looking into using a 3.4 from a 93 to 95 Canaro.
    Maybe with the Alum Heads?
What would be the best way to go?
Looking for about 220 HP,6500 RPM at the flywheel.
    Header?
    Cam?
    Intake?
    Rockers?
    Head work?
    Alum Flywheel?
    Thanks for the help! Randy

Heads and cam would probably be your best bet. I'm not sure how the stock camaro manifolds or aftermarket headers would fit in your truck so you would probably have to look into getting custom ones built. Again the intake would most likely have to be custom as well (its not hard to make yourself though). Why are you puting the 3.4 in though? I'm pretty sure you could put a 4.3 which they make parts for with your truck, or even a small block chevy (check here http://www.s10v8.com/ ). I know i can swap out the 4.3 in my 92 for a small block. I mean if you just kinda have the 60* lying around i understand but otherwise i would recomend a different rout. Also no matter what you will probably have to swap out your tranny since the bell housing probably wont bolt up to the new motor.

      Thanks for the reply.
The class the truck is running in must use a motor that came in the year it was built. Also below 3.5 L.
I was thinking of using a 1990 Beretta 3.4 upper.
      Heads,intake.
The lower would be a 1993 to 1995 Camaro 3.4.
This is to put the starter on the passanger side so I can reuse the T-5 trans and bell housing.
      Just looking for help!!
      Thanks again !! ,Randy

The 3.4 is great engine to put into an s10 as it is mechanicaly easy to bolt in. Your t-5 from your iron duke should bolt up to with no problems either. From what I remember hearing, aluminum 60* heads will drastically raise the compression on the fbody 3.4. So I would research that some more.

        I always say if I get a 4x4 S10, im going to put in a fbody 3.4, but for my 2wd S10 I prefer my 3800. ;)
