If the water pump pulley is removed will their be clearance problems with the new shorter belt. I was measuring it today and it looks like it would hit the air intake duct near the TB as well as several of the hoses. Any ideas, suggestions? I have all the parts I need for the installation of the electric water pump but I'm not sure about removing the old water pump pulley. If I didn't remove it and I simple didn't hook any hoses to it would I still see the HP benefits since their would be no resistance from the coolant flow? thanks for any help in advance.

One last question is it possible to put a smaller pulley in place of the waterpump pulley?

Sorry i dont have an answer for you but please let me know how it goes and what all you did to install the electric waterpump. I dont know to much about it but i heard a while back that for a street use car you want a mechanical pump because the electric robs so much. Some guy on cz28.com said that so who knows how true that is. That would be a good mod to do a writeup on, keep us posted

From what I read and heard so far I have gotten mixed reactions to this. The E. water pump I picked out only draws like 5 amps, which isn't a lot. Plus a shorter drive belt will reduce the load on the engine and alt. thus freeing some power. In addition to this I'm installing a 140 amp alternator to offset any power drain that may occur. UD Pulleys don't do much and they slow down the ALT so I'll probably have to remove at least one but I'll keep everybody posted on the results.

If it is a true electric water pump, it shouldn't need to be driven by the crank at all. Inplace of the original pulley, get a low friction, low weight pulley instead. Thats how most people avoid having to change belt length and still get better hp/tq.

Do you have any idea where I could get a low low friction, low weight pulley for the part of the stock waterpump or who would make them. That way I wouldn't have to worry about changing the belt I would just reroute all the radiator/heater hoses to the remote electric water pump and not have to do much else. The electric water pump isn't going to be located on the engine at all its going to be located probably near the air intake duct or over on that side of the car. i haven't decided yet where to put it. The electric water pump isn't driven by the crank at all, its completly seperate. I'm just having clearance problems if I remove the stock/old waterpump that is belt driven.
