  • Tips on Leaning out the motor-need help!

I have a 96 3.8 with cold air kit, and full custom exhaust. I have had the cat off for 2 years now. I took apart the throttle body to mill it out and increase the cc's its flowing. Inside the upper intake their is what looks like an excess fuel and carbon build up all over it. Need help, Im not sure what it is, or why its there. If my engine is not utilizing all of the fuel, what ways can I change things to do so. Hotter plugs? Please send me some feed back. Thanks.

Don't get hotter plugs. Get one of those s-afc plug-in computers and use that to lean out the mixture.

The carbon in the intake is probably from the EGR... I don't think its the PCV but you could check that as well..

If you want to lean the car out, MAFT works best.. if you want to lean it out and add timing advance, then get the MAFT+.

If you don't want more carbon buildup, then you have to block of the EGR.. that will set SES codes though.

EGR is Exhauts Gas Recirculation.. it helps emissions I believe. If its not there, it won't hurt the performance of the car.. but it won't help the WOT performance either if you remove it.. its mostly a cruise thing that is disabled during idle and WOT.

If you remove it you have to fab up some blockoff plates to plug the holes on the intake and exhaust manifold
