Just a random thought I had, so I thought I would ask here so everyone can benefit. Is the cam your looking at going to be emmissions friendly? Or would you be able to play with the MAFT+ a little to help before the test?

His cam will not be emissions friendly. He barely passed last time. Was it COs? I had the same problem, but now my car seems to be exempt from testing. I love mixups. So I'm going with something that will "gently" tap the pistons.
leaning it out will make the engine run as close to stoich as possible leaving less unburnt fuel in the cylinders after combustion but its more dangerous because it could detonate easily especially if its a hot day. Retarding the timing will help reduce emisions by lowering the amount of NOx emisions which are created more at higher temps and pressures. lower timing = lower engine temps and lower cylinder pressures and less power. On the 84 fiero I used to have I had to back timing out and lean out the carb to pass emisions. This is how I understand it. I could be wrong though.

Going with a little more air than stoich(14.7/1-15/1 will reduce emissions. The more air, the better the cats can work. Retarding timing helps too. Try to find a good mix of both so you don't lose too much power. While we're on cams, I've heard that with a low restiction intake you can run a higher lobe separation degree angle and still make good hp/tq. Is this true or am I wrong?
Question, would it be possible for you to pass emmissions with a programming change? Is there any way to set up the car for just one day regardless of power loss to pass or with the cam you got its pretty much impossible? Just curious.
