• Help! Need to decifer a Trouble Code.

I am getting code #36. When i refer to the Haynes manual it says.. (24x signal circuit error 3.4L)
Faulty circuit error from coil packs to module.
I have checked the coil packs primary and secondary resistances all 3 are within spec. I have checked the ignition module by using a test light and to watch for a fast blink on each of the connectors. All are ok.
After doing research on the internet a 24x signal circuit error refers to the crankshaft position sensor. What do I go by. I thought that if i had a bad crankshaft sensor that the car wouldn't run at all. Im trying to track down a hesitation/stumble problem. Its driving me crazy!!!
Anybody had this code before? Thanks in advance.

The 24X does refer to the crankshaft position sensor. Our engines have both a 3X and a 24X crank sensor. If this sensor is on the outs, but not quite there yet, it would make the engine hesitate under some circumstances. You can find this sensor by looking at the harmonic balancer on the front of the engine...look at about the 2 o'clock position and you will see a bolt holding down a harness with 2 wires coming out of it....that's the 24X crank sensor. FYI, the 3X sensor is on the passenger side of the block near the knock sensor. Hope this helps.

24x signal determines engine speed (ign and fuel timing input to pcm) at engine speeds below like 1200 rpm. over 1200 rpm or at WOT the pcm looks at the 3x signal for the same inputs. haynes should give testing procedure, if not email me and i will post. remember to test circuit as well as sensor. voltage drop from ground wire connector at sensor to pcm ground should be <0.1vdc.
hope this helps...
