  • post power pack install poss. prob??

this is after the power pack install.
i know new cams bring al kinds of trouble i just wonder if this is normal.
when i acellerate and reach 2500 rpms my engine starts making a sound like an airplane propeller. i dont want to say it sounds like grinding cause its not grinding. wierd like a mixture of grinding and soft popping mixed together. hell i am sorry i cant describe it. but it always happens at exactly 2500 and only goes away when i let off the gas. then the rpms usually hit 2000 and its gone. happens at every 2500 garunteed.

    you guys have any ideas?

its morning now so me and a friend go outside to give it a listen and is it supposed to smoke that much? it looks like my car is smoking a cigar!! you can hear the cams affect on the idle, but in the rear i hear i hope it is just muffler rattle, but i hear something wrong. maybe i am just paranoid. sounds like popping coming from the tail pipes.

ses light is off now but the low oil light is on. man it was smoking so much it looked like a burnout was done- a huge burnout. wierd how the ses light went off.

I hopw it hasnt drained your oil and the smoke was comeing from the pistons rubbing in the cylilender walls burning up whats left of the oil. I would do and oil change before I started the car again and look to see if there are any metal shavings.

Something is not right. You should not have any smoke. Is the smoke blue, is it burning oil? How is your oil pressure? I'd drain the oil and check for metal shavings first.

next day no smoke. ny buddy says it must have been from the car being sooo cold. but it was hella smoke, scared me half to death. but now the smoke is gone.

i still get that sound when i hit 2500 rpms. man do ihpoe that is normal

ses light is off but still cant shake the low oil light. the shop did an oil change. no leaks and the oil level is full

right now the car runs great and the idle sounds good. track time to come in a few weeks. sad how i have the ower pack and i still wont get magnus's times that he got with his stock motor. anyways, best of luck keith. i want 13.5 out of your car and i am not going to stop modding my car till you get it. :D

if it was white smoke it could be burning water or coolant. blueish smoke burning oil black of course too rich

Sounds to me like your installer installed your cam incorrectly.

how do you know if the cam was installed incorrectly?
now i have stalled twice with the oil pressure going to zero. there is no more smoke but the low oil light is killing me.

I dont know im just wondering why you had such problems and now you have some kind of noise?

Did he maybe install the cam wrong cause a scratch or some damage to the cam ? I would do like everyone else has said.. drain your oil and check for shavings.

pull your ecm fuses or unplug your battery for a while.. that may clear the low oil light if it is a false sensor reading. If it comes on again then perhaps there is something really wrong or a damaged sensor? Hard to troubleshoot with out getting dirty.

check the oil level sensor thing, located above the oil filter. i know its not fuel pressure but can't hurt to check. My car wouldn't even run I think when I barely bumped it changing the filter. Its possible he damaged one sensor or something doing the swap

josh, i think you hit the nail right on the head. i went and checked that sensor thinge. pulled it out checked the wires, put it back on and so far the light is off. i feel a lot better now. thanks a million.
though does anyone know what that sound is when i get to 2500 rpms?
and the smoke is nonexistant now, but it has not been that cold since the other day.

                        was it just valve clatter?

nino, that sound that you hear, does it sound almost like it's going into "vtec"? Because my motor changes it's tone completely once I go over 4K rpm, but that's just the nature of the cam.
As far as the oil light is concerned, good thing that you fixed it by replacing the oil sending unit (that thingy above the oil filter). I've changed that, and I'm still getting the light. Although they may be completely unrelated events.
How cold was it on the day you "smoked out". It may have been that the oil just sludged up and the motor was running dry for a little while. Are you the one who got the huge cam specs (220/224)?

royce, i guess you can say it sounds like it is going into vtech. it seemed to be normal cause it was constant every time i hit 2500 rpms. good to hear it is the cam doing its thing.
yes i am the one with 220/224 cam 114 l/s. the idle is not bad at all. i expected worse, but you can tell something in the car is different.
the day my car was smoking was serious cold. cold cold. nevertheless, the smoking is all done. havent seen it smoke again yet.
knowledgefreak, that noise i heard was something, just dont know what. the more i drive my car (especially with the oil light off) the more i feel they did a good install job.

magnus says he feels more top end power. to be honest i dont feel anything. i have not yet taken my car past 5000 rpms. i am just cruising here and there. also i am too scared to test it out on the streets cause of my warrants
soon i will put it to the test and let you know how it does.

                              Wow!!! 220/224 !!!

Thats a COMP Cams cam grind right?

I'd really like all the info you could give me on this cam.. how the power band feels, ET's & MPH.. and especially a dyno.. I'm very curious where your cam peaks.

btw, my car smoked at first too.. it was all the spilled coolant on the block.

                              Good luck!
